Fans of Foursquare on iOS are in for some good news today, with the launch of version 6.0 of the application. The update brings some nifty features and changes that make using the app a more joyous experience overall. The changes are not abundant, but those made are definitely good.
The first thing seasoned Foursquare users will probably notice is that the Explore feature has now turned into the application’s homepage. This means you will be able to receive recommendations as soon as you boot up the app, instead of having to tap the Explore tab and seek them out. The recommendations engine itself is much improved, as it now considers factors such as time of day, how familiar a user is with a neighborhood, and more.
In addition, the new version of Foursquare for iOS features a relocated check-in button, which now resides at the bottom of the screen, and remains static in that position no matter which page you browse to throughout the application. This makes it possible to check-in through the app from every page, which means even speedier check-ins.
Foursquare 6.0 puts search front and center: The search bar now sits on the top of the screen where the Foursquare logo used to reside, and also features handy search shortcuts such as “Best Nearby” to find the highest rated locations in the area. Where the Check-in button used to be, you’ll now find your notifications. The button is larger than the old notifications button, so you can keep track of your interactions of Foursquare more efficiently.
