The Windows Phone 8 app updates keep rolling in, and this time its Foursquare bringing some big changes to its check in and recommendation application. Users will enjoy some new features including lock-screen notifications, NFC check-ins, the ability to pin items to the home screen, and other goodies. The update also optimizes Foursquare to work with Nokia’s latest Lumia smartphones.
Lock-screen notifications work as you would expect them to: When someone adds you on Foursquare, or when anything else happens that requires your attention, you will be notified without having to open the application. The look of the app has been adjusted as well to match the Windows 8 design philosophy, with all the icons appearing as brightly colored squares.
Another interesting feature, and one we saw added to YouTube in its recent Windows Phone 8 update, is the ability to pin venues and people to the home screen. If you find yourself checking in at home or a certain business all the time, this can be a real time saver.
Foursquare is really touting the integration with Nokia Lumia devices, which comes as no surprise since the two companies have formed a partnership. According to a blog post from Foursquare, “Some of the Lumia models even integrate Foursquare data into their augmented reality experience.”
Windows Phone 7 will not support Foursquare 3.0 just yet, but the company was quick to point out that it is working on an update for those models as well.
