Five Places To Play Risk Online
After hearing so much about the Yahoo acquisition bid and the Google monopoly predictions lately, I suddenly an urge to play a bit of world domination myself.
If you’ve ever played Risk, the classic take-over-the-world board game then you will know its no fun playing with less then three people, or even setting up to play at all. So I decided to have a bit of a look for a good – and free – game of Risk on the Internet.
After sorting through a couple of pages of Google searches wanting us to buy the official PC version of Risk I came across some nice unofficial alternatives for you to play.
Here, for your enjoyment, are the best free Risk games:
The Facebook application
At last this may truly be it… a Facebook application that is not either completely pointless or annoys the hell out of me. Attack! is similar to Risk and can be played against your friends or anyone else who has the application (2% of Facebook users apparently). Just be aware, no matter how good you think you are… everyone else is better!
Java Risk
When you visit the download site this game sure may not look pretty and you may even think it not worth downloading at all. However the actual game is fairly decent. There are a large range of options and player AI, and even a number of extra maps to download when you get bored of the original.
Luckily too, Java Risk doesn’t seem to have gone the way of most small developer games and still gets the odd update. The last one was only a month or so ago and provided an installer for Vista.
Conquest
If you want a nice simple and easy game of Risk then Conquest is a good choice. Unfortunately the AI is very predictable and can be counted on to make the exact same moves and strategies again and again.
What this game is especially suited for is Pocket PC’s and you can download a version designed just for that right here.
Play online with LandGrab
This is maybe the best online Risk game I’ve seen. After registering for an account you can start playing. If you particularly like it then you can also purchase a premium account.
DominateGame
is another good Risk game which you can play either on your desktop or in your browser. The desktop version is free but unfortunately you will have to pay if you wish to play online. For 25 Euros a year I don’t really think it’s worth it so just play for free on your desktop!

Great pity, as they have one of the best Risk games in the world, however their PR is one of the worst I had misfortune to encounter on Internet.

I’ve found Conquer Club to be very enjoyable, and have never experienced any trouble from the administration. There’s a lively forum with some of the usual internet drama. I suspect the above poster is a disgruntled troll.
Finding the game to play against others is just the start. Then you need to know how to win.
You can learn a lot form Sun Tzu, Napoleon and many other historical figures. Risk is a really diverse game and the online Risk games mentioned in this article are good (apart from Attack! which no one really likes!).
You can find tons of strategies, guides, resources and books dedicated to Risk at Total Diplomacy (Online Risk Strategies). Many share their Risk strategies so you can take advantage of them in your battles against others.
Let me apologize for the comments from the various ConquerClub nay-sayers. We asked a volunteer to step down for various reasons and it led to some unfortunate events after that, including lots of trolling, and it seems to have spilled over to other sites as well.
We’ve never banned anyone, nor removed premium, from anyone who has not violated one of our two very simple rules: Rule #1: No multiple accounts, Rule #2: No secret diplomacy. Those who are complaining above violated Rule #1 and they’re right – I have no sympathy for someone who wants to intentionally ruin the experience for others. We’re out to keep the game playable and fun for honest players, not cater to cheaters and trolls. Sorry if that is bad customer service

Conquer Club rocks. The forum mods irritate me sometimes, but more often than not they make good judgments. Most of their victims break the rules anyway. Besides, you don’t even have to post in the forum; you can just play the game. The site is top-notch.

One that not many know about is evernightgame.com Really fun to play. you can play one game at a time. If you want to play more tha that its 5.99 a month, hella reasonable for the quality and game play experience.

Brand spanking new Risk site!
It’s like risk on steroids, its got more options to customize the game than anywhere else, and they are open to taking in suggestions on how to make it better!
Maps also look better then anywhere else in my opinion, same as the others free, to play, can pay for more benefits.
I was also banned from Conquer Club without warning or reason, and recieved no help from the staff. So I go to the forum I heard about CC at to badmouth them, but big suprise they already knew already all about it. So I figured this probably wasn’t a couple of bad incidents, and started looking around which is how I found this discussion. Along with a lot of people with bad things to say about, the same guy who happen me, Twill I found a trend of people losing their money to unsupported, and anoynmous ’suspicions’ which is also what I was banned for. Don’t take my word for it. Do a couple of searchs, and don’t give these twits your money.
As near as I can tell much as how the overwhelming majority of users are not active in the forum (as I wasn’t)the overwhelming majority of those getting banned isn’t noticed.

Sorry your account was suspended for multiple accounts. We take a very aggressive stance against multiple accounts because cheating sucks. If you have been unfairly busted, please drop me a PM with the ticket number you submitted for your appeal and I’d be happy to look into it.
And yes, we bust a lot of multiple accounts which are being used to cheat and have a better site because of it – we’ve averaged about one an hour every hour of every day since we launched the site and have a very low false-positive rate. Although, we do occasionally make mistakes and try to correct them where we have.
So, please feel free to contact me if you’ve been falsely busted.

I agree with critics of conquerclub. They do have a great site, one of the best. But I and a friend have had our accounts disabled just because we logged on using the same computer. I understand that that is the best way to id multiple accounts, but no response at all to our emails is rediculous, and poor p.r. Also talked to others with same beef. Be very careful if you give money to this site!
For what its worth, i just played the FB one for an hour or so,, got in a few good games. Got killed, of course, but the gameplay was good. smart players, fast moving enough, easy gameplay/controls
Conquer Club: does not have a classic map anymore…THAT SUCKS.
Dominategame: Is free to play online with others, unlike what the original article said. You just have to deal with annoying banners. No good ranking system, which stinks.
Facebook: Seems only to have ascending cards, no set cards option.
I’m still looking for a multiplayer online game with classic map and set cards and a really good ranking system.

just wanted to say i’ve recently been playinc conquer club and i love it and was thinking of joining premium… THANK YOU for the warnings! My money is valuable and can’t be thrown away to someone who may ban me without solid proof. I’d be interested to know what proof they use for “secret diplomacy.” Seems like an un-provable thing to me and a bad reason to ban paying users.

ive played on conquerclub for years now, and it is the best. most of the people complaining on here are from a small group of people that have it in their mind to do anything to hurt the site. there have been instances where people were busted that shouldnt have been, although i know of no situation where legitimate players werent reinstated after submitting an e-ticket about it… dont listen to the handful of people that are out to do cc harm, there are tens of thousands of players that have never had a problem. and i know of no players personally that were incorrectly busted of cheating…
conquer club is amazing never been kicked in the two years playing it and its been really fun.. it has great maps and graphics and your allowed to chat to start up games with friends and what not and you cant be kicked for no reason there is always a good reason …. but its amazing and rlly seems like these people are lieing cause they were banned and just want to keep people from joining… for all we know could be the same exact twill is wrong on all of them but anyways just great club great people lots of fun

If you can handle more than a dozen enemies, more than a handful of territories, and aren’t afraid of a few extra units like ships and missiles, you should take a serious look at BattleCell. battlecell.com

Many of us on LandGrab including myself used to be members of Conquer Club and we left. Some of the reasons we left:
Most of us have been to or came from Conquer Club and we left because:
1) CONQUER CLUB MAPS ARE NOT CLICKABLE, YOU HAVE TO FIGURE OUT THE NAMES AND THIS MAKES IT TEDIOUS TO PLAY THERE
2) The way it is run is oppressive, no freedom of expression. People are banned and lose their money for the smallest of infractions. Many innocent people lose their money after being falsley accused of being a mutli.
3) Our most popular map is here is the classic risk one, THEY DON’T HAVE ANYTHING LIKE IT. They don’t have the Middle Earth Map either. The site owner claims he’s nervous of legal action by Hasbro.
4) You have to know CSS to make maps and even then, only if you get “Special Approval” for your map. Here, we are all free to make maps, or have fun trying.
5) Our year’s membership is $5 less, ($20 vs. $25).
