There's no shortage of apps that come in handy when you're looking for somewhere new to eat. You can user read reviews, find restaurants based on distance, price, popularity, and more. The newest app to join the fray  sets itself apart by tapping into local favorites.

Taste ranks the top restaurants in a bunch of categories: coffee, burgers, drinks, pizza, sushi, breakfast, dinner, dessert, and lunch, with more categories coming soon.

The app relies on its users to determine what locations will be listed. Each Taste user can cast just one vote for their favorite restaurant for each category. Each vote is worth 100 points, so the more votes a location gets, the higher on the list it appears.

Unlike other restaurant apps filled with subjective reviews, that sometimes aren't left for the right reasons or claims of algorithm shenanigans, Taste simplifies the process. When you're given just one vote for a category, you know you're going to choose carefully.

To cast a vote, you'll have to sign up for an account, but you can see each city's rankings without signing up or logging in. You can also see more info on each restaurant including location, phone number, hours, and website links.

Right now the app is available only on iOS, with an Android version in the works, and caters to almost 30 U.S. cities.
