Get Festival Recommendations With The New Last.fm App [Android 1.6+ & iPhone 4.0 - Currently US Only]

Do you love music and festivals? Do you wish someone would let you know when your favourite bands will be playing at the same festival? Well, here’s a little something that will do just that.

It doesn’t matter whether you’re a Last.fm lover or completely new to Last.fm, their latest smartphone application will no doubt appeal to you. The Last.fm festival application lets music festival lovers quickly see which nearby festivals are featuring their favourite artists. It’ll even let you see festivals you might like worldwide if you’re keen to travel. But the beauty of it is that Last.fm doesn’t need you to tell it which artists you like — it works that out from your listening habits. Your summer festival line-up just got really easy!

If You’ve Never Used Last.fm

Unregistered users can still make use of the Last.fm applications, simply by searching festivals by date, location, festival name or artist. However, it’s a much more personalised experience if you are a Last.fm user, since festivals can be recommended to you by which artists you listen to the most.

It’s really easy to set up an account with Last.fm and begin to scrobble your listening habits to their servers. New users can set themselves up quickly by letting last.fm import your play counts from iTunes when they sign up, meaning Last.fm quickly gets a good idea which artists you really like. Then the fun really starts!

Last.fm Festivals

Last.fm has been promoting events and festivals via the website for years, making it easy for users to find a lineup of their favourite musicians. Users can then decide whether to buy tickets for the festival or to simply listen to the Last.fm radio station of the festival. The Last.fm festival radio simply plays tracks by all of the artists in the festival lineup. It can be used as a good way to check out the other artists who will be there or just to feel like you’re a part of the action when you’re unable to go in person.

Last.fm Festival Applications

The Android [1.6+] and iPhone [4.0] Last.fm festival applications are another step along from the website. The free applications let users find festivals quickly and easily, using geo-location information from their phones, dates and user data about musical taste.

Currently only users in the US can download the applications, but since festival information is already available on the website for worldwide events, it shouldn’t be long before the rest of the world can use the applications too.

If you mark yourself as going to the event, then the application will add it to your calendar and you can get reminded via your calendar closer to the gig. There’s even a handy list of your gigs ready for you to refer to.

From within the application, you can also browse the artist information, similar artists and tagging information. If you’re keen to explore a little, you can see which festivals your friends are going to as well.

How’s your festival line-up looking now that you’ve tried the Last.fm festival application?
