What Is Your Favorite YouTube Channel Right Now? [We Ask You]

YouTube is ubiquitous at this juncture. If someone shares a viral video, and insists you watch it, chances are it will be on YouTube. Sure, there are alternatives to YouTube, but the Google-owned site is the most popular service for watching videos by quite a margin.

What has helped foster this rise to the top are the channels which have managed to build regular and returning audiences. Which is what this week’s We Ask You is all about.

If you have a favorite YouTube then this is your opportunity to share it with the rest of us.

Champion Channel Choosers

We want to know, What Is Your Favorite YouTube Channel Right Now? There are literally millions of channels available to explore. Most of them are pointless and/or terrible, as they contain nothing but a handful of videos no one wants to watch. And that includes us, so please don’t recommend them.

Thankfully, there are also some amazing channels available on YouTube. These are updated often, full of videos that everybody should watch at least once, and home to bona fide Internet celebrities who have made a name (and face) for themselves on YouTube. It is these channels that we want to hear about right now.

Simply tell us what YouTube channels you subscribe to and which you think other people should also start watching. The genre is immaterial; as long as the content is up to scratch then we don’t mind whether it’s comedy, science, music, technology, or any other subject matter you care to mention.

Those in need of some inspiration – because let’s face it, the Internet has given us all memories like goldfish – need look no further than MakeUseOf itself, as we have shared plenty of irresistible and unmissable YouTube channels over the years…

These are listed just to inspire you, but if one of those mentioned is your favorite YouTube channel at the moment then feel free to promote it below. Otherwise, be original. From PewDiePie to Smosh, from Nigahiga to the Vlogbrothers, all are welcome.

Have Your Say

All comments will be read and most will be replied to, before a follow-up post is published containing the We Ask You Results. One reader will win Comment Of The Week, receiving a geeky T-shirt chosen from those available through MakeUseOf Rewards for their effort.

We Ask You is a column dedicated to learning the opinions of MakeUseOf readers. This column is nothing without you, as MakeUseOf is nothing without you.

You can say I am a doggie person and simply love dogs. They are the only creature in this world, who can love unconditionally and forget and forgive any mistreatment meted out to them by us humans. Therefore, most of the time my Facebook, DP and cover picture, represent a doggie picture :). Also, my page likes in Facebook and channels that I follow on YouTube has to do with dogs. Out of the lot, the one always fascinates me and have taken my imagination are the dog rescue videos and then re-habilitating them to a great house. Out of all the like pages and YouTube channels, a great Samaritan Mr. Eldad Hagar rescue story and videos, always moves me. Therefore, my favorite YouTube channel belongs to him, were all these stray or abandoned street dog rescue and transformation is posted at http://www.youtube.com/user/eldad75 .

Nice pick! But alas, cats control the Internet, and your comment angered them. You had better be sure to pet every cat you see from now on to get them back on side.

Rajaa C

He also saves cats, donkeys, etc. etc. Any animal in trouble, he saves it. A good Samaritan. :D

I love the Lindsey Stirling Channel. She is a gifted musician and creates very entertaining music videos.

Dave P

I must admit I’d never actually heard of her. She looks fascinating though, so I will definitely check out her YouTube channel.

Since you’re so curious, my favorite Youtube channels include…

MobileTechReview: Lisa, the host, cuts through all the hype and gimmicks to provide in-depth, thoughtful reviews on the latest gadgets. Simple, yet informative.

StarTalk Radio: Everyone’s personal astrophysicist (Neil deGrasse Tyson) shares brief insights about the wonder that is the universe. The last few months Neil has been busy with Cosmos, so Bill Nye has been filling in. Science rules!

Dave P

Two great choices. Bill Nye is a pretty good stand-in for DeGrasse Tyson, I must say!

No matter what anyone confesses to, who doesn’t want to relive 5th grade – and continue on in life being able to sing loud and proud? Maybe you’ve dreamt of being able to sing, heck even do kareoke, but have been bannished to lip syncing and stuck in the shower singer rut. Let’s face it…if you are on this site you are probably somewhat of an introvert. You have to give this feel good channel a spin. Watch a few videos and you’ll be hooked.

PS22 Chorus (Mr. B is a babe & posts videos of his 5th Graders from a public school in Stanton Island + celebrity guests + awesome music + great people watch)

I mainly use YouTube for entertainment, so when I first read the question my first thought was NerdCubed / Daniel Hardcastle ( https://www.youtube.com/user/officialNerdCubed ). He posts gaming content regularly, and his humour sets him apart from pretty much every other gaming channel I’m subscribed to. The jokes are consistently funny, the comedic timing is perfect, and he makes obscure references to The Simpsons that I’m sure 90% of his audience are unlikely to get. I think the main reason that I love to watch NerdCubed content so much is that we seem to have a similar way of thinking. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve been watching a video, and Dan has said something that I thought a few seconds earlier.

So, in terms of entertainment, NerdCubed gets my whole-hearted recommendation. But the recommendation for my favourite YouTube channel has to go to Laci Green ( https://www.youtube.com/user/lacigreen ), simply because I think she contributes so much to society in general. Laci hosts a show called Sex+ (pronounced Sex Positive) that focusses on consent, positive body image, acceptance, equality, safety, and much more besides. The content is so accessible and engaging that it can be viewed by any audience, and I honestly believe that the entire world would be a much better place if Laci was put in charge of global sex education policies, especially considering that consent isn’t yet part of the sex education curriculum in either the UK or the US, and that the content that is taught is often out of date and makes no attempt to relate to the audiences. I strongly advise that everyone subscribes to Laci Green if you aren’t already.

Dave P

Great comment, as usual, Tom :)

NerdCubed looks great, definitely my sense of humor too. It really does help when you find someone who thinks the same way as yourself.

I found Laci Green annoying, mainly because of the quick cuts. She looks like she’s actually doing some good though, so I’m not going to rag on her too much.

I don’t have one. I have lots.
1. Matthew Santoro – Comedy videos with cool and interesting facts. I love his commentary and his alter ego Eugene who makes occasional appearances. My favourite video: youtu.be/gVc1AqQ3k58

2. WahBanana! – This one’s a comedy channel which caters to Asian audiences but there’s a white guy in the cast. They are based in Singapore. My favourite video: youtu.be/EDHY6qkpW6o

3. TreePotatoes – These guys were the original cast of WahBanana! before they left to start their own channel. In the same mold but much funnier and wackier. My favourite video: youtu.be/J8SZ_uAvMa8

4. Vsauce – Of course, how could anyone forget this one? My favourite video: youtu.be/PEikGKDVsCc

Dave P

All great choices! At least a couple of these are sure to make our list :)

CGP Grey forever.

Dave P

That’s definitely a channel to get lost in for hours at a time. I’ve seen you recommend him so often I’m starting to think you are actually CGP Grey.

I wish…

I have two. Those are pbsideachannel, it has tons of interesting stuff, from science to ethics to religion, anything that can make you think and maybe challenge your views about something and the other is Gopher, an awesome guy that makes very very well done let’s play of videogames. Incredible sense of humour and extremely well roleplayed

Dave P

Both good choices. Gopher especially looks like my cup of tea.

Normally I skip answering these “We ask you” articles and wait to see what people say but I felt I needed to bring this one up. I love watching Robbaz as he hilariously plays a ton of games and jokes around. Many many hours spent watching his crazy antics. I really think anyone checking this out (whether they are a gamer or not) will not be disappointed.

I’m really glad you took the trouble to comment. We appreciate it. A couple of the Robbaz videos cracked me up. Definitely bookmarking.

My three favorite are these:

1) https://www.youtube.com/user/CGPGrey
This one has interesting stuff about, well, anything. It is spoken very fast, and because of that I am kind of glued to the screen, even if it’s about my least favorite subject. (Side note: my teachers usually see me dozing off in class)

2) https://www.youtube.com/user/minutephysics
The name says it all: in one minute they explain a physical phenomenon and even make it funny and understandable.

3) https://www.youtube.com/user/patrickJMT
I don’t like this one as much for just wandering around youtube, but if I get stuck in my maths, this channel has the answer.

Okay, I’m going to add a fourth one, I feel like a nerd right now.

4) https://www.youtube.com/user/TommyEdisonXP
A blind man explains how his life is – and tries to understand how life with sight would be. Very funny and a bit informative (I’m sorry, apparently I am a nerd).
