Facebook have finally released an update for their Facebook app and it is now officially iPad compatible. Facebook app for iOS has been around for ages, but strangely enough, it was never adjusted for the iPad.

iPad users around the world, who were left to alternative apps or  lacking experience were left to using the official iPhone app, can now enjoy a full-sized Facebook experience using the official app.

This is not just a “Facebook for iPad” release, but an update to the existing Facebook app which includes several new features on top of iPad compatibility. For iPad users, this mainly means big, high-resolution pictures and full utilization (finally) of the iPad’s bigger screen.

Among the new features are the side menu, which is accessible from any page by tapping the left-most menu icon, and provides quick access to all your favorites, groups, pages and apps. You can now access apps and games from right within the app, which is also a new feature. You can also send messages and see your notifications from anywhere – the top bar stays put no matter where you are in the newsfeed.

Using the new Facebook app is a lot like using the website, but the whole thing is very iPad-native. You can tap, swipe and pinch to zoom on almost anything, which makes the new app a much better solution than Facebook in your browser.

What do you think of the new Facebook app? Is it an upgrade even for iPhone users? And will iPad users bother to download it after getting used to different solutions for such a long time?
