iDevice users may have missed out on Home for Android, but a recent update to Facebook’s iOS app brings some brand new goodies that make up for it. Included in this update are new features called “Chat Heads” and “Stickers” along with a reworked news feed.
If you’ve heard anything about Home, you may know that its messaging feature allows you to overlay conversations on top of whatever app you might be using. Similarly, Facebook for iOS now offers chat heads which provide a similar messaging function, but only within the Facebook app itself. How does this work? Tiny circles featuring images of your friends’ faces can be dragged around all over your screen regardless of what Facebook page you are on. Tapping a chat head opens up your conversation with that person, and of course, they can be minimized for a less distracting presence.
Stickers are also a part of the new iOS messaging system, allowing you to send cute and funny icons to your friends. These images are much like Facebook’s original smileys, but this time around they have a bigger and bolder presence. More stickers can be purchased in-app from the Sticker Store.
The revamped news feed offers a cleaner and more streamlined experience, but this appears to be much more visible on the iPad. For those of you who already have the new version of the news feed on your desktop’s browser, the layout is quite similar.
