Letting our kids see television shows like Dorah the Explorer is good. But when they are watching, we parents must accompany them to explain everything that the characters are saying. Also, we must let our kids do other activities as well as too much of television is detrimental to their health.

Hi Karl
kids love using technology and when this can be used to help them learn too that is a good thing, especially when their lives will be dominated with technology that we cannot even imagine yet.
As long as their time is balanced and parents choose wisely technology can be a great source of edutainment.

Hey cajnavrecka - I think you make an excellent point. But in my own opinion it's also important for people to realize that we live in a different world. While I loved playing with my neighborhood friends every Saturday morning, I would have absolutely loved the opportunity to stay in touch with my friends who ended up moving away in grammar school through an online social network...

It's a brave new world and it's bringing us closer together as a global community - and it's allowing kids to expand their mind in ways that we didn't have available to us as kids. And that's not a bad thing at all! However, your call for moderation is also important.

please please tell me you also spend time with your children off-line!! it's very easy to just stick them in front of a tv or a computer, but, dear parents, do you remember how was it when WE were children? when we actually went out of the house with our parents/cousins/babysitters and later on with friends - real flesh-and-blood friends, not the kind you have on facebook?
