I am also a lefty but a bit ambidextrous like batting and writing arabic,i use my right. i can exactly say that we are gifted coz i find all lefties are in some way exclusively talented. 90% of us are talented on the other hand 75% of righties are dum buggers!!!!!

OK. My reason for being on here today is I am looking for an actual official advocacy group. WHY? I am left handed. It set me back and when I was YOUNG (along time ago) they tried to get me to switch hands. my Mom would not allow it. Now, I have a 6 year old daughter who is also left handed and VERY creative like me. Her school trats her VERY unfairly and even held her back as a result of her writing skills. Does any of this sound familiar to you? I am in the media somewhat and just may decide this is my real purpose in life and make it my mission to get special grants, conditions for selected people, educational differences and to help educate people to realize we are very different. We need a voice. Advocacy needs to happen for us and we even need to develop scholarships for left-handed people.

I think this is one of those American English/Canadian English things. That’s how they were referred to in all of my training. Kind of a silly thing to pick on in an article, isn’t it?

Much like how in Canada girls put elastics in their hair, while in parts of the U.S., elastics are the band on your underwear.

I’m a lefty and all I can say is that there are exceptional gifted people – right-handed ones.

I have 5 siblings, all of them right-handed, I’m good at things they’re good at – but they’re better than me. I can say I’m a jack of all trades, but as the saying goes further down, “master of none”. Proud to make up the remaining 8% though.

And I say lefties don’t get laid often unlike their righty friends.

John, what you say makes sense. I’ve also heard the same thing about deaf people being more likely to be illiterate, but it’s not true. They just process the words differently than hearing folk. And the our educational systems don’t recognize that.

I am proud that I’m a lefty and a smart one at that. I am certainly not dyslexic and I’m smarter than aprrox. 65% of my entire year group if not more.

That is another dyslexia myth , It was assumed to be true just like there are more dyslexic boys than girls.

When handedness was actually the point of dyslexia and handedness the best correlation with dyslexia was ambidexterity with no higher rate for lefties or righties .
