Easily Rip The Audio From Online Video With VidToMp3

Aug. 13th, 2008 By Karl L. Gechlik

vid2mp3I got a rather strange request this morning in my AskTheAdmin inbox. It sounded strange to me at first but after thinking about it, I realized it wasn’t that odd. The request was for a way to rip the audio from a YouTube video… wait there’s more!

So the ripping method could not involve any downloaded or installed applications and had to be done online - and of course for free. The end result had to be a MP3 that could be played on a Windows Mobile phone.

Off the top of my head I couldn’t think of anything but in this day and age I knew there had to be something out there that did what my loyal reader wanted to do.

On my first Google search I found Vid2MP3 (wich apparently was profiled on MakeUseOf Directory as well. See VidToMP3 - Online Video to MP3 Audio Converter). It says that it will do EXACTLY what I want to do… Automagically.

Wow, maybe everything has already been created? Nah…

Let’s check out this free service. First I went to YouTube and found a JayZ video here.

Its URL is what we need to plug into Vid2Mp3. You can find this in your address bar. For this video it was: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ekomM8aobQo

Next we open up the Vid2Mp3 website and plug in that same url like so:

After typing in or cutting/pasting your URL in the box above you hit that Download button and then you wait. This video took us a little less than 3 minutes to convert. When it is finished converting you will see something that looks like this:

You hit that ‘Download MP3′ button and you will be greeted by a screen that allows you to listen to it via a embedded player, share it or download it. Very handy for being on a restricted machine.

So if you want to listen to It’s a hard knock life click this link [Play] [Play] and you will be taken to a web page that looks just like the screen shot above. Enjoy.

Do you have another way of doing what I just did? Care to share it with us? That is what the comments are for, kiddies!

There’s a site I sometimes use called Zamzar (www.zamzar.com) that can rip sound from online videos. I don’t know if this site offers higher sound quality, but I’ll give it a try.

I tried to grab a song and it got corrupted. My music player said it was 26 mins long but it wasn’t even complete. Might try some of the others people listed.
