I have been playing with PhotoGrabber on the Mac for a few weeks now and I have to say it does one job and it does it well. I use the FacePAD extension for FireFox to download a single album, but PhotoGrabber comes in handy when you want to find pictures of a specific person across multiple albums (and accounts).

My only complaint about this program is that it does such a good job, it downloads any picture that you are "tagged" in. Since many people on FB tag you even though you might not be in the picture, you end up getting a lot of misc extra pics. (On the other hand, I guess it is my FB friends faults for mis-tagging people).

Hi Ian,

You bring up a good question. I'm no lawyer, so unfortunately I can only point you in the direction of more information. Facebook's Privacy settings can of course be used to stop people from accessing photos (including using this application).

PhotoGrabber's Privacy/Security information: http://code.google.com/p/photograbber/wiki/Privacy

Facebook's Statement of Rights and Responsibilities: http://www.facebook.com/terms.php You'll probably want to look at section 2. Sharing Your Content and Information, subsection 1:

1. For content that is covered by intellectual property rights, like photos and videos ("IP content"), you specifically give us the following permission, subject to your privacy and application settings: you grant us a non-exclusive, transferable, sub-licensable, royalty-free, worldwide license to use any IP content that you post on or in connection with Facebook ("IP License"). This IP License ends when you delete your IP content or your account unless your content has been shared with others, and they have not deleted it.

Any lawyers in the house want to give us some input?

How about the legalities of the use of this application then? Not everyone who uploads to Facebook will expressly allow others to grab their (or someone else's images they have on licence, say from a professional).

A quick scan of the above reveals nothing said about this and respecting copyright holders work.

The end user would be liable if they infringed using this app and could conceivably face significant financial penalties through the courts.
