Download Bing’s Image Of The Day With A Click [Updates]

It’s not a huge update or even headline catching news in the grand scheme of things. But if you are among those who love the beautiful wallpapers Bing puts up as its background on the homepage, you would appreciate this one. The Bing homepage is one of the distinctive features of the search engine from Microsoft, and something that glaringly separates it from the staid minimal interface of its chief rival. According to the Bing blog, the ability to download the backgrounds has been an oft requested feature. Bing has answered with a nod.

Bing now gives you an easy way to download the image with a click on a download icon that’s placed on the right hand side of the screen. Bing asks you to click on the download button, connect to Facebook, and then proceed to download the image to your computer. You can also view the image in full-screen mode by clicking on the icon with the intersecting arrows.

Remember, the download option is localized for the U.S. You won’t be able to see the download icon elsewhere. But that can be easily circumvented by going into the Settings and changing the location to United States. Also, do pay heed to any copyright the image comes with. You can click on the icon with the ‘i’ to find more about the image.

It would be nice if they add the feature to the Desktop client. I like these images and use the desktop client which automatically sets the Desktop everyday.

As I have mentioned, you can change the Region settings to U.S. and download it just the same.

Even though you can change locale to US and get the additional download function, it’s still a b*tch that all these things come forth US-only at first. Do these ppl think the US is the only part of the world that matters, I wonder? Pisses me off.

P.S. You can still download the image, of course. In Firefox/Chrome, just press Ctrl-U (which lands you in the “view source” page), search for “jpg” and voila! Copy the link and paste it after bing.com – you’ve got the image :)

That worked for me, but the image I got from the source was significantly lower res than the legit way.

Don’t get pissed at MS, get pissed at your country’s policies that hinder companies.

For the simple reason, Microsoft wants to build a community around Bing. Also, it is easier to track with Facebook Connect.

I’d rather have them host it in SkyDrive. At least then there’s no need to sign up just to snatch a few wallpapers every now and then, but your point is valid. Bing is trying to sell this point and it’s natural that they want to know how attractive it is to users.
