Every computer user has experienced application hangups and freezes at one point or another. When such a situation arises, users need a fallback solution. For Mac users, this fallback solution is offered by an app called Ctrl Alt Delete.

Ctrl Alt Delete is a free to use desktop app for Mac computers. The app is sized at nearly 1 MB and compatible with Mac OS X 10.6. You install the app and let it run in the background; when a problem arises, you simply use the app’s hotkey combination. The app then shows you a list of open programs and the option to exit particular apps, or shutdown / log off / sleep / restart your computer. You can also use the app to log off / sleep / restart / shutdown your computer after a certain time period has passed.

On OSX, if you press CMD+Opt+Esc it brings up the "Force Quit" window, which does literally the exact same thing as this app. It's OSX's version of CTL+Alt+Del

In addition to this, to cover the apps quick shutdown/restart/etc features:

Control-Command-Eject > Quits all applications (after giving you a chance to save changes to open documents) and restarts the computer.

Control-Option-Command-Eject > Quits all applications (after giving you a chance to save changes to open documents) and shuts the computer down.

Command-Option-Eject > Puts the computer to sleep.

Shift-Control-Eject > Puts all displays to sleep.

    What a pointless app.

Quitting a frozen program on a mac is as simple as right clicking on the program icon. Why would I want to add a background app -- consuming system resources -- to do something so straightforward?
