I would say if you can install and maintan a Wordpress blog then you can use MediaWiki as well. It's not hard at all. You need to poke through some documentation (in a wiki, of course!) in order to find the settings you want, and these need to be changed with a text editor in one of the files in the installation. And, of course, you need a mySQL database (it may also accept other kinds). I've always used the automated tools in cpanel for setting up my databases. I don't consider myself a sophisticated techie, but I am a fairly fearless tinkerer. Not for novices, but not terrible, either.
