Yes, Filebox Extender is a good program but the best yet is Folder Guide - it allows you to go to any folder you include with a simple click on a specfic context menu containing all the folders that you place there (also with a simple click on those very folders or via a dialogue box, if preferred). This means that you can produce the context menu with the Folder Guide alternatives ANYwhere in an Explorer window as well as in File Open and Save dialogue boxes and in the Start Menu. Google it and you won't regret it!

MedalFolders sounds OK but after checking their website I can't see that it offers any more than, and probably offers less than, many other launchers already available. Portable program launchers like A-Suite and Portable Start Menu can still be installed on the local hard drive, can open folders as well as files, are also operated from a system tray icon and seem to offer more options to customize and access their menus than does MedalFolders.

When it comes to quick access to folders, the open source program HawkScope is even better still. HawkScope opens with a single click on the system tray icon and displays a list of user-specified folders along with a self-populating list of all drives (both internal and external) that are currently available on the PC. Hovering the mouse over any folder or drive shows it's contents along with an open button to open it in Windows Explorer or one can continue to drill down through the folder tree by hovering the mouse over the folders in each subsequent level. Files can be opened with a single click.

HawkScope also offers a number of options including show/hide hidden system folders/files, a user-defined blacklist to prevent specified items from displaying and a user-defined 'Open With' list that over-rides the system defaults.

So why dont you just drag a folder into the quick launch area (next to the start button) and its always there. you can add anything into the folder you want including files or shortcuts to other drives, files or folders. i have six or seven commonly used folders (and some shortcuts to files) in my quick launch bar at work to take me to deeply burried folders and files.

I agree with Bob, am I missing something or is this all it does?

How is this any better than adding shortcuts to your desktop? With the same/less effort you can right click on the file/app you need to nav to and "send to desk top. now you can access it throughout the window's app structure and you don't need another useless piece of freeware.

Or am I missing some functionality that this thing offers over my method?
