An emulator is a computer program attempts to make one computer system work like another by translating or interpreting the computer code of the system being emulated so that it runs in the same manner on the foreign system running the emulator.

As an example, older electronic games had programs on Read Only Memory (ROM) chips and those programs were run by special software in the game controller when you plugged the game cartridge in. Someone might have copied that ROM code to an image file of the ROM. An emulator might read that ROM image and use it to control a display under Windows so that the game could be played by the Windows user without using the original game controller. In other cases, the emulator might read a game CD-ROM disc in a computer and play the game without the game hardware.

I like the idea of the instaport. You’d think that instagram would have a much better website due to it’s popularity but that’s the one part they lack in.

ome time ago you featured a touch program called Leap and the contact was Paul Heineke, He asked for prospective purchasors of the $89 program to register for a first purchase, and I registered.. I received a reply saying that there were some glitches but it would be available in August. I set aside some savings to purchase this and have three times Emailed Mr Heineke, askng if there were now dates available, and have never yet received a reply.. I wonder if perhaps you have any information about this, do you think I should contiue to wait.

      Hi Joan,

I believe the article you are referring to is this one: http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/introducing-the-leap-a-new-touch-free-way-to-interact-with-your-computer/

As you can see, it’s a piece of hardware which is available for pre-order. According to the FAQ:

“We have a limited number available for our first shipment this winter. Early birds catch the worm – so click here to order. We won’t charge you until the product is ready to ship.”

So if you have pre-ordered you should not have been charged yet, and thus there shouldn’t be too much to worry about. If you haven’t pre-ordered then you can do so without sacrificing the money until the product is released. I’m not sure if the team will be answering individual emails regarding the status of the product as I assume they’re working flat-out to get it ready in time. I’m guessing they will contact you and others who have registered interest “when it’s ready” so to speak.

Another option would be to monitor/join in the discussions on the official forum at: https://live.leapmotion.com/forums/forum.php

While I can’t speak for the team themselves it would seem things are moving along according to the forum activity and the fact that they are currently advertising a vacancy too. I hope this helps. If you’re wondering whether or not to pre-order then I can say that I know staff members and personal friends who have already decided to do so so you shouldn’t worry too much!

      Tim
