The point of torrents is downloading illegal software, movies, ect. Through a loophole. The idea is that each site does NOT host the files, hence the seeding system for user hosting. So the site can say it is just a search engine like Google and if they are being shut down so should all sited that can be used to search for copyrighted materials, such as Google. Making legal torrents is as pointless as making guns that don't fire, it defeats the purpose. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I think you're wrong. The torrents in essence offer an alternative/better way to distribute files. We successfully used in the past on MakeUseOf to efficiently distribute large files. It's true that most of the torrents are nowadays distributing copyrighted content but that doesn't mean that they are meant for those.

Well of course there are uses for them that are legal, but they were created for illegal uses. So far as I know. It's like marijuana, you can use it for good (medical purposes), but most of the time they are used for bad (getting high). But I totally see your point that torrents can be extremely useful for legal files.

EveryTimeZone is a cool-looking app. It beats having clocks on your wall for each time zone -- like in trading rooms and international hotels. There's a similar site called 'time.is' that delivers time zone info through a minimalist interface.
