“Wikipedia is a grate resource to find information on many topics, however … ” Well, they do grate on my nerves sometimes when the articles are insufficient. Can you find grates there? I’m sure they talk about grates of all kinds, as well as the action of grating. In fact, there are probably lots of grate-uitous comments about grates … and all that variety is GREAT.

As for comma splices … well. Punctuation is important. It’s the difference between “Tom helped his uncle, Jack, off a horse.” and “Tom helped his uncle joack off a horse.”
