I work with a popular gamer forum - We have been criticized for not allowing deleting accounts. There is a simple reason - we get a LOT of people who think trolling, personal attacks, flaming, and abusive comments with a lot of profanity is somehow acceptable. Many believe that they can just make a throw away account and keep their misbehaving there. Then will quickly try to delete their main account to hide their tracks. (Instant ban when caught with multiple accounts) If we allowed account deletion, we would have no way to track these back and keep them from just making another throw away and doing it again. This doesn't get rid of all, but does cut down on abuse. We also do not sell any info on our members. None at all.
