LinkScanner has been bashed so much in the press because it was causing excess bandwidth usage (every search result scanned the site, rather than checking an AVG-hosted malware list, causing phony “hits” to sites). Not a good program to install. User outrage caused AVG to add an opt-out to not install LinkScanner and SafeSearch in future versions of AVG 8.0/8.5
