Hmmmm...strange. I have AVG as well and it worked fine. What version are you using? the new one, AVG 2008? Not asure about Trillian though.

Snoopfree is small non-commercial program maintained by a single guy, so probably there are plenty of small bugs there.

Snoopfree alerts whenever some program tries to read the text from your screen or record the keyboard keys. The thing there aren't many legit programs aorund that needs access to these detials. I am personally not aware of single legit program that does this.

Not sure about Avast, but it seems to be quite popular. I am the AVG guy. :-). As about VMWare, I haven't tried it myself but you're are the third guy recommending it. Must be good!

I had some problems when I installed Snoopfree on my machine. It didn't play nice with Trillian 3 and the AVG anti-virus software I have. It caused both of them to become non-responsive after a while. I'm not sure if this is a problem other people are experiencing, but once I uninstalled Snoopfree my Trillian and AVG now work fine. I'm just posting this as a word of warning in case you're considering using Snoopfree for some reason or another.

Thanks for the information on Sandboxie, this seems like a great little program and quicker to use than programs like VMWare.
Perhaps I am missing something with Snoopfree but I don't really see how this program is of any use as someone could install some kind of monitoring software on your computer and as long as they say that it's safe to use before you get to look at it the only way you'll know is if you continually monitor the allowed list. But perhaps I've misinterpreted it's usage. What would be better is a program that would require a password for any new install of any program. I looked a while ago for something like this and didn't have much success, perhaps someone here knows of a good one (hopefully free).

Sandboxie is pretty cool but there are a bunch of other software programs that do similar stuff. I am a big fan of Avast (www.avast.com) to stop malware and VMWare (www.vmware.com) for virtual operating spaces. I also like to wipe my hardware infrequently as it seems Windows slows down the longer you use it. It is also a good way to get rid of unwanted programs. Lastly, for physical security, I have a built in fingerprint reader for my Dell M1330 and a ViewGuard Privacy Filter (www.buyviewguard.com) as a privacy screen.

This is kind of a no-brainer (and it may not apply to all that many of you), but DO NOT try to use SnoopFree if you have replaced your Windows shell! I am running bbLean on my laptop at work and I received a nasty surprise after the SnoopFree install & restart...
