Is there any way to cache passwords in Firefox, so when using Firefox from work via a proxy server you not constantly asked to reenter your password for the proxy access when you move from site to site?

Not many know it. And all stuff in about:config is for common users you say?
Do you think a normal user will be able to intepret the values there easily. There are high chances of something going wrong when a noob gets into about:config. It's only for geeks.

The GUI allows you to modify only one thing - the size of the cache. Nothing else.

It's a great start, but I'm still hoping for a way to perma-cache certain file types (images, style sheets, java, external scripts) from selected sites.

<em>"By default, Firefox doesn’t provide you with advanced configuration options on web site caching levels."</em> Sure it does. Have you checked the about:config page ? Next time, please consider a proper documentation before writing such jokes.
Have a nice day.
