Zite, a leading iOS magazine app, just released a completely redesigned update that now enables users to rate stories, organize subscriptions, link to Facebook to get automatic topic suggestions, and explore and find article topics from over 40,000 categories.

Zite is a free app that delivers stories to your iPhone or iPad from across the web based on your personal interests. The more you use the app, the more Zite gets to know about what types of stories you favor and dislike. The 2.0 update of Zite now includes a huge expanded list of categories and topics to search and select from.

Zite starts users off with a selection of “Zite Picks”, ranging from Architecture, Education, Movies, Science News, Crafts and Street Art, to Entrepreneurship. Each selected categories results in a few dozen daily stories that are displayed magazine-style on your iOS device.

All your subscribed stories get listed in a sidebar, and in the new version you can quickly edit, delete, and rearrange the order of categories. Stories are presented in Reader fashion, without surrounding ads and other webpage elements. The app also allows you to add more than one account, which is useful if you share your iPad with other users.

As you browse and read stories in Zite, you can vote them up and down, which helps Zite determine what type of stories and sources it delivers to your app in the future. Links to selected stories can be shared on Facebook, Twitter, Pocket Reader, Instapaper, Evernote, and even via SMS.

I have an IPAD 1 and could not update to operating system 6. When I tried to update to the latest Zite update I could not because I was still at the 5 level. It really frustrates me that I cannot enjoy the new and improved features of Zite dicussed in this artical. It is a pity that Apple leaves so many people out in the cold after only a cou[ple of years after purchase of a very expensive device. I still use Zite without the update but am angry with Apple for the way they treat there customers.

Yeah, unfortunately Apple is no longer providing support to the iPad 1. I pretty much ran into the same problem, and this upgraded to the iPad mini. So I know how you feel.

The redesigned Zite is a pretty cool app for your iPad.

My biggest problem with the new and old version is that you have to keep opening the drop-down menu in order to switch to a new category. If you subscribe to 10-15 categories, all the tapping gets redundant after a while. Thanks for your feedback, though.

Yeah, Mac, not sure how you don't know about Zite. It's been out for a while. You're not a new iPad user, are you? :)

I have been using Zite ever since I got my Ipad 1. I use it several times a week. I was able to select from variious topics that I was interested in and to create my own area
of interest. The quality of the stories for each area has been remarkably consistant and of high quality.
I do not have a great deal of experience with Zite 2 but as a result of reading the article I plan to investigate later today or tomorrow. Thumbs up for Makeuseof for another high quality article.

Wow I went to look/download app to see if I liked it but it has so many negative feedback I am nervous. They range from 1.Sloppy, 2 Hijacked?, 3. You've ruined an old friend, 4. upgrade disaster, and 5. Zite's a fright now.
Since I am a rebel I will download it and decide for myself but I am scared.

Kimberly: It's not BAD now, but it was much, much better before.

Kim, it used to be a 5 star app, the kind that used every single day, and was so beloved that you told all your friends they needed it. Now it sucks, but no worse than all of the other mediocre news aggregator apps. It's just really run of the mill and cluttered. Their recommendation engine was tweaked too, and is producing weird results in my feed. It's not going to hurt you if you install it, but it's just not that great either.

Hmm, I don't find that bad. I won't say it's a great improvement, but it's essentially works the same as the old version, but with more categories to search from.
