Last week we asked you whether or not you use the new social networking phenomenon, Pinterest. While opinions varied from it being too girly to it being too similar to Tumblr, more than one third of the readers have nonetheless voted that they love it.
A total of 345 readers voted, and the results were as follows: 36% use Pinterest and love it, 14% have a Pinterest account but weren’t blown away, 10% have an account but haven’t used it yet, 7% don’t have an account but want one, and 32% are not interested in Pinterest.
Full results and this week’s poll after the jump.
While a third of the voters are not interested, the remaining 68% either have an account or want one. That’s saying something about the rate in which Pinterest is spreading.

This week’s poll question is: What Do You Think Of Our New Comment Interface?
Two weeks ago, we asked you for your thoughts regarding our own commenting platform. By now, most of you have probably noticed that we went ahead and switched to a new interface. As stated before, comments are the best way for us to interact with you, our readers, and we therefore care about your thoughts and feedback. So now it’s your turn to tell us, what do you think of our new system?
Whether you’ve kept your thoughts to yourself or already provided feedback on other articles, this is the place for you to have your say. Is there something you really don’t like? Is there something you really love about the new interface? Tell us everything!

New comment area needs to bump up the font a bit. Also the comment boxes need to be at the bottom for less scrolling.
Comment boxes are currently at the bottom of the page, exactly where they used to be with Disqus. What difference are you seeing?
They’re at the top Yaara! We made it that way to AVOID long scrolling when you just want o make a comment. Though, you could argue either way I guess.
Also, font size is actually larger than it used to be. You want bigger still?
On the top? They’re on the bottom from where I’m looking at it! Just had to scroll through the article the get to this one. They never moved anywhere for me.
On the top *of the comment stream*. At the bottom *of the article* ;P
Oh, you mean that the most recent comments are on top. That was not clear at all!
Maybe it’s that there is less white space between posts. It just seems harder to focus on specific comments.
I can see that. That’s good feedback, thanks!
Meh
Give LiveFyre a try!
You need some kind of social media integration.
I agree, try something else, but leave the WordPress system out – it just don’t do what the others can do.
Thanks, I will pass that on to our developer.
There is social media integration – you can login using your social accounts using the login links in the top right, on the sidebar. What other social media features do you want?
Where’s the like button?
There is no like button here, but you can always reply and say you liked it. :)
Bring back Disqus, please!
What is it about Disqus that you miss? If we know about specific features we can try to make this interface better.
it’s clean and simple but it would be nice to have all the bells and whistles of Disqus :)
What features are you missing most?
I need to pay more attention. 0.o
I respect your switch to WordPress’ default commenting system,as you faced problems with Disqus. But I miss some of the features that Disqus provided me and which I liked the most.
1) Email notifications for comments.
2) Ability to customize our Disqus account and keep track of how one is liked for his comments.
3) No embed facility for images, videos.
4) Only author of the article and staff members have the facility to click on their names and that too their name redirects to their respective site. So,one can’t know how much the author’s comments is liked or how much he comments.
Thank you for the feedback Susendeep.
I have seen regular readers with clickable names in comments. I think that if you link your MakeUseOf account with a social account, you can have that link. If you look several comments up, there is a commenter that linked his name to his Facebook account. I agree that it’s not as convenient as having the Disqus likes.
As I said in earlier comments, we’re working on e-mail notifications. Hopefully that will be solved soon.
1. should be fixed now.
3. you can link it, that should be sufficient
4. I did this because people were starting to use their business or site name in their profile, and I dont appreciate us being used as an SEO tool. Perhaps I can enable this for power users in future somehow – like anyone with a score over 1000 or something?
Is it just me or isn’t the MakeUseOf Answers section still on DISQUS?
Yep, still is. The switch is gradual, since it involves some export/import hassle. Answers will be switched with time as well.
While I preferred the Disqus comment system, I do appreciate that you haven’t decided to go the facebook comment system route. Thank you.
I dislike having to scroll all the way back up to the top past all. the. ads. They make me cringe, they make me feel like I need to yank the hard drive and run a few different virus scans on it. The locations are inconvenient at best, and depending on the ads being displayed, annoying at times.
I don’t know if wordpress’s default comment system auto updates, which was one of the best features of Disqus.
Reply notifications if you turn off email updates follow you with Disqus. Default comment system not so much.
Enough of the cons..
pros:
Less hassle, hopefully, at least?
Umm, can’t think of anything else good about it, sorry.
Nope, no auto updates from the default comment system.
I was going to submit this article to the tips section, but then, I figured you might already know about it ;)

Hi John,
Thanks for taking the time to write a detailed feedback.
I’m not sure what you mean about having to scroll all the way back to the top. When do you have to do that? And how is that different from what we had with Disqus? The location of the comments hasn’t changed.
We’re trying to figure out the reply notification issue. I agree that it’s hard without it. For us, the biggest pro is receiving reliable comment notifications and thus not missing comments from readers. But if the readers themselves don’t get notifications, they may never know we actually answered. Hopefully that will be resolved soon.
Disqus was a huge drag on the site. Pages load much faster without it
Yeah. true.
Thanks, we thought so too. Much faster without.
and now this is looking more beautiful with these light descent colors (I’m seeing colors first time). But how can I change my avatar? How to create a link in name. There are only three fields. I think you people should provide registration system. Then we’ll of this site’s members.
And now I logged in with FB. So this was the way ;)
Glad you found the FB option. :) Now it should remember you every time you visit the site, and you get your avatar and your link.
I must agree with you.
One thing this WordPress commenting System isn’t capable of doing – It doesn’t allow any social media connection to be able to comment.
While I have to insert my name and e-mail every time I would like to leave a comment, and after I leaved the comment, the whole page re-loads and go back to the header….
With other commenting systems like disquss and Livefyer – you are able to leave your comment without re-loading the page and it is instant while you can see that it was posted….
I really am disappointed in what you have done know, I am not able to receive e-mail notifications like before….
Hi Tim,
Thank you for the feedback!
First of all, you can log in with any number of accounts such as Facebook, Twitter, Google or Windows Live, and then you won’t have to type in your name and e-mail every single time. You will also be accumulating points in the MakeUseOf game, which is awesome.
As for the page reloading every time, that’s fixed now, but the result is that you can’t see your comment right away (needs refresh), and that’s not the best.
We are working on the e-mail notification issue. Are you missing notifications for answers on your own comments?
To clarify, use the social login links on the top right sidebar. Then you can just comment without retyping things.
I’ve also just ensured comment reply notifications should work now. In fact, you might even get a notification about this.
What a cool blog. Great pictures. It is rellay cool how you took something as simple as breakfast and turned it into art. This would make a great book.
From what I remember of the old comment form (not much) this one looks cleaner and easier.
Thanks, that’s great to hear!
Just noticed many posts (particularly in ‘Ask for Tech help’ still show the old comment form (Disqus). Why is this and will we see some sort of uniformity soon?
It’s quite messy the way it is.
That’s right, we still use Disqus on MakeUseOf Answers, but that should change too. It’s a bit more complicated to switch Answers, but it’s in the works.
No! I really thought there’s something wrong with my browser’s javascript or something…
Previous one was nicer and had better features.
What features are you missing, specifically?
Notifications from other Disqus sites, liking, profiles of other users.
Anyway, THAT commenting UI you released now is cool too, don’t change it.
Also, how did my picture get up there? I remember I only entered name and email…
Perhaps you signed in using one of your accounts? If you do, it remembers you.
Oh ok.
Anyway, keep the commenting system you have now (don’t change back to previous “new”) and make logging in automatically comment with that account too (so I don’t have to log in twice to comment).
Your name is pulled from http://www.gravatar.com depending on the email address you entered. If you register with a social network, it will use that instead.
Ok, now I get it :)
I just have to remember to log in to comment. Disqus remembered me when I visited. Page load time seems faster though.
You can click on “Remember me” when you log in, and it should remember you. I don’t have to log in every time I want to comment. I also tried creating a different account using Twitter credentials, and it didn’t log me out. Having to log in every single time could be a bit of a hassle, I understand that.
I’d like either a way to customise what notifications I get, or at least something telling me what I’ll get. With Disqus, I had it set up so I got notified of any new comments on a post I’d commented on, which I liked because if I comment, I often find other peoples comments interesting. With this, I’ve logged in with twitter and I can’t see what notifications I’ll be getting.
right now, you’ll only be notified of replies to your comments. Being able to follow a specific comment is an interesting idea though, its just not something that wordpress provides natively so it’ll a lot of work to implement it.
I think I know what the problem is with the new comment system. First, go here and look at a page using the old comment system:
http://www.makeuseof.com/dir/interactive-biology-way-to-learn-biology/
The font is bigger and there is a lot more white space between the comments. The current system is too cluttered.
If you’re the same John from above, you might see it differently once you clear you browser’s cache.
I looked at your link, and for me the font looks exactly the same in both, so I’m thinking you’re not seeing the right version.
Some more info:
The old font size was 10.5.
The new font size is 9.
Also the old font was black and now the new font is gray which also adds to readability problems. Or at least for me it does.
Ok, I changed it to black to make it more readable. It may take some refreshing / cache clearing in your browser and our CDNs before you see the changes though.
The font size definately increased from 12px to 14px though, and I’m actually still trying to calm down the bossman who says it’s far too large right now. I think we should leave it at this sie before I try to anger him again!
Here’s a screenshot with the two comment types next to each other:
http://i.imgur.com/OzkkR.png
You can see that the old style is obviously bigger.
Also you can copy and paste the text into MS Word and then look at the toolbar at the top and it will show that the font is 9.
We are still talking about the comments and not the article text correct?
Hi John,
I think you need to clear your browser’s cache, you are not seeing the comment system in it’s newest iteration, it looks completely different now.
No wonder you don’t like it right now, it wasn’t like that for more than a day, and the update should have happened automatically for you. Try clearing cache and see if things look better.
Yes…this is way better. And I love the colors used for the nesting.
Good call on the grey font. I think black font will definitely help readability. Thanks!
Now that I am seeing the correct version it probably would have been ok to stick with the gray font. It’s ok either way but the article text is more of a grayish-black and it looks ok so the comments would probably be just fine with that color too.
