The headline sums it up. The updated Facebook iOS now allows you to choose specific friends for sharing your photo albums. Facebook for iOS 8.0 gives you an easy and quick Share with only these friends feature. The easier one-click sharing feature is a timesaver because earlier you had to make and use the smart lists for selective sharing. Now, simply pick the friend (or friends) by clicking on the roundlet next to their name.

Facebook iOS App - Share Photos

The private sharing option is a welcome arrival as Facebook contends with Snapchat’s ephemeral micro-sharing. Photo sharing on the Facebook app doesn’t go poof like Snapchat’s, but it is a desired private option if you earlier hated the workaround of creating friend lists for avoiding a blast to all your friends. You just have to remember to use the option as it reveals itself only after you click on the default Public share.

Facebook also brought two other changes to the update:

  • An updated design that makes it easier to post and share on iPad.
  • Improvements for reliability and speed.

The ability to share your special photos with your “inner circle” is the attention grabber. Will this feature make you share your secrets all the more with your best friends? Or would you still keep those photos under the hat…or use Snapchat?
