As an owner of an Live Wallpaper” capabilities, in which special software-driven animated wallpapers can be set instead of static, image-based wallpapers. Some live wallpapers that are offered by default or that can be installed via the Play Store are pretty stunning and allow you to make your Android device that much cooler.device, you’re probably well aware of Android’s “
However, despite Android’s live wallpaper feature, you can’t actually use a video as your wallpaper, so you’re limited to the software-rendered ones. Video Live Wallpaper has been the go-to app so far, but it hasn’t been updated in well over a year. Thankfully that’s about to change, as a new and well-supported Android app exists to give you this functionality. The best part is it’s quick and easy!
About Alive Video Wallpaper
Alive Video Wallpaper fulfills this role by allowing you to pick from a collection of videos to set as your wallpaper. It’s extremely easy to configure and doesn’t drain your batteries by suspending whenever you’re active on any other app. There are many videos to choose from, and the developer claims it should work smoothly on “90% of Android devices”.
Getting the app installed is, like virtually any other Android app, quick and simple. You can find the app by searching for “Alive Video Wallpaper” in the Google Play Store or by following this link in either your desktop’s or Android device’s browser. A few clicks or taps, and you’ll be ready to go in no time.
To set a video wallpaper, you’ll need to hit the Menu button while you’re on your Home screen, then choose Wallpaper.
In the next prompt, you’re going to select Live Wallpapers as the app uses the live wallpaper framework to play the videos. After tapping on Live Wallpapers, choose Alive Wallpaper.
You’ll then be presented with the default video selected, which should be a video of rain hitting a body of water. In case you want something other than rain (which will most likely be the case), go ahead and tap on Settings, then Alive Wallpaper to choose from the collection of videos that come with the app.
Give it a moment to load as there are a more than a couple, and you’ll soon see a list of different videos you can choose from. At the time of writing, there are currently 15 videos in the collection, and all are the same type of “stock” or “generic” videos as the rain video which was the default.
Choosing a different video will begin the download process, as downloading them all as part of the app’s installation would have made the app quite massive. As soon as it finishes downloading, you can choose to set it as your new video wallpaper.
That’s actually it! See, it’s quick and simple to do, and it works on most Android devices. If you’re not sure if it’ll work on yours, just give it a whirl and find out for yourself, although newer devices which are decently powered should fair well. The only feature I’m missing is the ability to choose your own videos as your wallpaper, but this is definitely a good start so I have no complaints. If none of the ordinary live wallpapers are your cup of tea, you should give Alive Video Wallpaper a try!
