Celebrate Movember & The Magnificence Of Mustaches With These Web Resources

mustache websiteIt’s Movember. No, that isn’t a typo, it’s meant to be an “m” rather than an “n” as November has once again been accosted by men sporting magnificent mustaches in order to raise awareness of male health issues. It’s a serious subject brought out into the open by a month-long effort to grow facial hair. And do any of us really need as excuse to grow a mustache anyway?

As a fan of facial hair myself, I don’t actually need to grow a mustache for Movember. I could instead shave everywhere but my top lip, but that would be cheating. However, what I can do to help – thanks to being fortunate enough to be a staff writer here at MakeUseOf – is highlight Web resources related to Movember, and mustaches in general.

Movember Wiki

We’ll start with the basics, because many of you may not even be aware that Movember exists. It definitely does, as this Wikipedia entry testifies. We learn the origins of Movember, the rules for participating, the celebrities who have backed the campaign in previous years, and the charities which gain funds from the money-raising side of the whole thing.

Movember.com

Next we have the official website of Movember and the Movember Foundation which runs the campaign. This is where you can register to take part, donate money to the cause, or get involved in another way. Both men and women are invited to join in. You can also find out where the money raised goes, and how many people have grown mustaches for the cause.

F*** Yeah Mustaches

mustache site

Now that the housekeeping is out of the way we can move on to sites that exist for no other reason than celebrating the mustache. The title of this Tumblr says it all really, but for those who need to know more, F*** Yeah Mustaches is two girls sharing their love for mustaches with the world. To that end we get endless images and GIFs of fancy crumb catchers.

Moustachionista Musings

mustache website

The brilliantly titled Moustachionista Musings is another Tumblr authored by a woman with an obvious penchant for mustaches. Fittingly this one actually takes part in Movember, wearing a different mustache every day of the month, and raising money for cancer charities as a result. As for the spelling: whether mustache or moustache, they’re both the same thing.

Manliest Mustaches Of All Time

You may have reached this point of the article still wondering what the appeal is of the humble mustache. There is only one way of demonstrating the power of the mustache, and that is to list the best mustaches that have ever been sported. These are the manliest of men wearing the manliest of mustaches, and if you still fail to see the appeal you’re obviously blind.

How To Grow A Mustache

So, you’ve liked what you have seen so far and want to grow your own mustache. But how do you achieve such a lofty goal? Thankfully help is at hand, with this video showing actor Nick Offerman revealing his tips on how to grow a mustache. For beginners, obviously, as he is a seasoned professional with a mustache bound to put your feeble efforts to shame.

The Movember Song

Eating a raw onion wasn’t enough? Then you obviously need some more inspiration, and perhaps having it set to music will help you on your way to becoming a member of the coveted mustache members club. We get to see Derick Watts and The Sunday Blues attempting to grow mustaches for Movember… all to the tune of Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen.

Movember: The Movie

This final video will push you over the edge and make you want to grow a mustache no matter how difficult it may be. It’s Movember: The Movie, and it shows a guy turning his life around by merely growing a mustache. This may be loosely based on Limitless, a movie about a secret drug that unlocks potential. But who needs drugs when you have a mustache?

Conclusions

If that little lot hasn’t persuaded you of the power of mustaches then just remember that Movember isn’t one of those pointless made-up holidays with no meaning or message behind it. Movember raises awareness of potentially life-threatening illnesses that are usually ignored until they affect you or someone you know.

Are you taking part in Movember; growing and maintaining a mustache for the duration of one month? Were you previously aware of this effort or have you only learned about it from reading this article? Please let us know in the comments section below, where you can also share any websites or videos related to Movember and mustaches that you feel should have been featured.

Me too, unfortunately. Beards suit me, mustaches make me look like someone you wouldn’t want hanging around schools.

Haha. Normally it isn’t, but don’t you think these websites are full of maniacs? I never thought I’d use the term ‘mustache geek’. It’ll be interesting to explore these sites:)

When something falls out of fashion it always becomes celebrated by a select few :) And in the case of Movember it’s for a good cause!
