The new CBS drama based on Stephen King’s best-seller Under The Dome is set to stream on Amazon to Prime members just four days after it airs on CBS. Most TV shows don’t stream online until well after the initial air date, and if they do, it’s usually to Hulu Plus members or on the official website of whatever channel aired the show. However, Amazon is shaking that up with this deal for the new show, which has the potential to be a huge hit.
Not only is Amazon streaming the show quickly after it airs, but it is the exclusive streaming home for the upcoming television show. This means Amazon Prime subscribers will be the only users able to stream the show to their Kindle Fire HD, iPhone, iPad, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and host of other devices.
If you are not a member of Amazon Prime, you will still be able to purchase episodes of the show through Amazon’s Instant Video service.
Under The Dome tells the story of a small town that gets locked off from the rest of the world by a giant dome. It’s quite an interesting read, and should make for a fantastic TV show when it debuts on June 24 on CBS, and again four days after that when it hits Amazon for streaming.
Brad Beale, Amazon’s director of digital video content acquisition, made a statement regarding the move, in which he said:
“Adding a current season major network TV series like ‘Under the Dome’ to the Prime Instant Video library so shortly after its live airing enables us to increase our exclusive selection of great TV shows and give customers access how, when and where they want to watch it.”
