See What Cats See

Cats pretty much own the Internet 8 Purrfect Cat Websites For Feline Lovers 8 Purrfect Cat Websites For Feline Lovers Cats are everywhere online… as photos shared by friends on social networking sites, as cute pics on Reddit, on any of the cat-centric Tumblr sites, and even here on MakeUseOf. Oh, and then there’s Nyan... Read More right now. Other animals may be cuter, stronger, more obedient, or more interesting, but none of that matters to the millions of Web addicts who have allowed moggies to run riot online. But what would a cat see if it ventured onto the Web? Or, for that matter, what does it see on a day to day basis? We have a rough idea thanks to science, but what the world looks like through the eyes of a cat has never before been visualized as well as this.

Candy Facts

Halloween is, at the time of writing, just a few days away, which means one thing for kids in countries which observe this holiday: candy, and lots of it. In fact, candy seems to make up a high proportion of the diet of some children (and adults), despite the fact that sugar is really quite bad for you in large amounts. Still, it’s good to learn facts about things, and Mental Floss recently tackled candy. Sweet.

Star Wars Revisited

For a fraction over $4 billion, Disney therefore landed the Star Wars franchise, and promptly announced... Read More is a beloved and adored franchise that has already spawned six huge movies and is soon to have many more added to its lineup. And yet many of us watch it without really thinking about the story. It is, after all, a simple tale of good vs. evil. However, Nicholas Carlson recently watched the Star Wars films again for the first time in a long time, and shared his thoughts with the group. Mind blown.

Apple Event In GIF Form

Apple press events are like buses. If you miss one then don’t worry, there will be another one along soon. Also like buses, the things contained within the events rarely change in a big way. The most recent Apple event saw the new iPad Air and iPad mini unveiled, and OS X mavericks and the fugly Mac Pro detailed. All of which is very boring unless shown in the form of GIFs.

Slow-Motion Dog Shaking

Dogs may not be able to compete with cats in terms of online popularity contests, but they still have their moments. We’ve all seen what happens when a dog gets wet; lots and lots of shaking occurs at the dog’s earliest convenience. But most of us have never, until now, seen dogs shaking themselves dry in stunning slow motion and glorious high-definition. Soundtracking the whole thing with porn music just adds to the appeal. Strangely.

Teaching Students Not To Send Porn

It’s absolutely crucial to check and double check the attachments you’re sending in an email. And if you need proof as to why it’s so important, read this story and cringe. In a nutshell, a teaching assistant at the University of Iowa was meant to email out homework answers to math for business students, and instead mailed out images of her and a friend enjoying each other’s company. Oops.

Fake Banksy Sells Out

British street artist Banksy is currently enjoying a residency of sorts in New York. One of his stunts involved setting up a stall full of original artwork which very few people bought. However, after the video of that stunt went viral, these pranksters decided to chance their arm by selling worthless copies from a similar stall. They sold out within the hour.

iOS 7, Word To Your Mother

Those Apple guys are geniuses, pure and simple. From the guys at the top running the company all the way down to the retail staff, ironically (surely?!) called geniuses, everyone at Apple is magnificent. But iOS 7 can be replicated using nothing more than Microsoft Word. Oh, damn, I take back everything I previously said. Idiots, the lot of ’em.

Flatulence-Filtering Underwear FTW!

I have been known to pass wind occasionally. As I’m sure have you. Everybody does it, whether they admit to it or not. The sound of a good fart is often comical and met with laughter, but the smell produced by odorous flatulence isn’t quite so funny. Hence the need for Shreddies’ new range of fart-filtering underwear. Yes, this is real, and rather brilliant.

The End.

We end this week’s Weird and Wonderful Web with a rather depressing website all about, well, the end. Using statistics related to the average age at which people die, See Your Folks calculates how many more times you will see your parents before they shuffle off this mortal coil. Which is a timely reminder to go home and visit more often.

Conclusions

This column is designed to entertain, but it has probably failed miserably on that score. If you feel it has achieved that goal be sure to let us know in the comments section below. If, as I suspect, it completely failed to make the corners of your mouth turn upwards even ever so slightly then be sure to inform us of that instead. Like the cruel, heartless Internet commenters that you are.
