You can be a sniper and knock down zombies or the enemy in cold blood. Or you can shed that violent streak inside you and just knock down a few cans. If you have ever played in the alleys and backyards of your childhood, you probably have piled up a few Coke cans and tried your aim with a rock or a tennis ball. I know I have, that’s why the simplicity of it all drew me to play this game when I spotted it on our Best iPhone Games page.

Just run down to the Sports Games category on the page, and you will see a brief description of Can KnockDown. Simple to pick up, easy to play, difficult to master – Can KnockDown is a simple and fun addictive physics based game. By the time I reach the end of this small review, I think you just might agree with me.

Can KnockDown – In the Best Ideals of an Arcade Game At The Town Carnival

As the above video shows, there is nothing remotely complicated about Can KnockDown. Just hit play, and the game starts by showing you how to flick a ball at some cans arranged in front. You get five shots and two balls at first to rack up a score as the arrangement of cans progressively changes as you progress ahead. The goal as always is to beat your previous score…and that’s where a bit of the addiction creeps in.

As you can see in the screenshot below, as you start racking up the points, a few different kinds of cans emerge. For instance, if you hit the red can, you get more points. The more cans you knock down, the more you collect. It is not about the aiming, which is simple enough; but it is more about precise aiming, knowing just where to hit so as to inflict maximum damage.

So, go ahead. Knock a few and see how many points you can tote up. You can send your best scores to the Game Center and literally challenge your friends.

Installing Can KnockDown

Can KnockDown is a free install on the Apple Store. It is an ad-supported version but the ads aren’t too intrusive and you won’t really be bothered as you can finish the rounds in a jiffy (that is if your aim is good…or not). You can purchase the full version for $0.99 which removes the ads, gives you a new ball, and takes you to a new location. Can KnockDown is a good advertisement for the paid Can KnockDown version 2.0 of the game.

Can KnockDown is also available as a free download on the Google Play Store for Android.

Addiction Quotient

Hmm…pretty high I would say. And that’s just me trying to best my own score. I haven’t sent out any challenges via the Game Center yet. Can KnockDown has been well reviewed and it has been downloaded in mass amounts. So, the appeal speaks for itself. The graphics are very well done, and the sound of the ball hitting the can is realistic. Plus, not all cans just get hit and fall down. Some tantalizingly roll over and stay put. Try hitting those.

On the downside, there's bit of a lag sometimes. There’s no curve or swerve of the ball. You just aim and hit straight unlike what we see in touch arcade games like Flick Golf, Flick Soccer, or Football Kicks. I can’t argue with a game that has been downloaded so many times, but a few more challenges, even in the free version, would have spiced things up. For instance, more variety in the arrangement of the cans. But maybe, that’s the reason why it is one of the simplest physics based games around on the App Store. Play it…challenge yourself or your friends. Tell us what you think of Can KnockDown.
