Snapchat is now selling its Google Glass-style Spectacles online. This means anyone in the U.S. can buy a pair of Snapchat Spectacles, and start recording short videos of the world around them.

Snapchat's Spectacles are sunglasses with a tiny video camera built into them. Anyone wearing a pair of Spectacles can tap a button and shoot 10-second video clips of exactly what they're seeing in front of them. These videos are then uploaded wirelessly to Snapchat.

In September 2016, Snapchat officially unveiled Spectacles. In November 2016, Snapchat started selling Spectacles from vending machines called Snapbots. These were dropped into various locations around the U.S. for a limited period, leading to long lines of potential buyers.

Snapchat filed for an IPO a few weeks ago. Which means potential investors are watching the company with keen interest. Selling Spectacles through Snapbots was a just a stunt, but Snapchat is now hoping to turn Spectacles into an actual business generating real income.

Snapchat Sells Spectacles.com [No Longer Available]

Snapchat is selling Spectacles online at spectacles.com. Which is a killer domain name if we ever saw one. Anyone located in the United States can buy a pair of Spectacles complete with a charging case and cable for $129.99. However, there is a limit of six pairs per household.

Before you even consider buying a pair of Snapchat Spectacles, you should check that you own a compatible device. This means an iPhone 5 or later running on at least iOS 8, or an Android running 4.3 or later, with BLE and Wi-Fi Direct capabilities.

If we're honest we can't see Spectacles ever really taking off. Snapchat will sell a fair amount, and label the launch a success, but these aren't game-changers in the same way Google Glass could have been. Hipsters will love Spectacles, but the rest of us will merely sidestep the hype.

Do you use Snapchat? Do you have any interest in buying a pair of Snapchat Spectacles? If so, will you now take the opportunity to buy them online? If not, why not? What would you film using Snapchat Spectacles? Please let us know in the comments below!
