Maybe to help you out a little. Here are the most important Firefox extensions that I use:

× Adblock Plus – Block ads, much more effective than the Chrome version. Ads are blocked everywhere, including all videos sites, not just Youtube.

× Add-on Compatibility Reporter – Allows you to use outdated addons since 95% of them still work after a Firefox update. You can also report their functionality should you choose to.

× App Button Remove – Remove the ugly orange Firefox button. Then just press ALT to bring up the regular menu bar.

× Blank Your Monitor – use CTRL+ALT+B to make a page more readable. You can choose the colours you want. Set the background color, font color, link color. Much more fluid and efficient than it’s Chrome clones. I set the background to black, with grey text, and blue links. Then when I’m on my computer after dark I use CTRL+ALT+B to make webpages less hard on my eyes.

× Fasterfox – Speed up Firefox by enabling pipelining, preloading, and other hidden settings.

× FireShot – Capture + Annotate webpages, viewable portion, or the entire webpage. Much better than Chrome versions as it works on ALL websites no matter their scripting or security, and it is actually quick, you don’t have to watch the script run through like with Chrome.

× FEBE – Backup / restore your entire Firefox profile, or select exactly what you want to backup (just passwords and bookmarks, etc).

× FindBar Tweak – Adds everything that is missing from the default FindBar, try it out.

× FireFTP – Connect to FTP sites from within Firefox, simple and effective unlike all the ones I tried in Chrome which seem to fail miserably.

× Flashblock – Prevent flash from auto-loading (stop annoying sites which automatically play videos). You will now have a play button which you can click and the flash element will load. Probably speed up browsing as well for slower connections.

× Greasemonkey – Cool extension for using javascript to customize webpages. Huge database of prewritten scripts at UserScripts dot com.

× HistoryBlock – Wonderful extension. Enter in domains or subdomains to prevent those sites from showing in your history. Maybe you don’t want people to know you read online comics, or maybe you just want to hide adult content. So you don’t have to remember to turn on a privacy tool which prevents history, it just automatically leaves whatever sites you choose out of your history.

× Prospector Instant Preview – Very cool extension that automatically begins loading sites as you move your cursor over them in the awesome bar, great if you have a fast connection. The site loads as you decide to click on it, voila it’s already loaded once you click on it. Something to definitely try out before you make any opinions.

× Net Usage Item – Fantastic extension that shows your Internet Bandwidth Usage. I have a meter that shows the percentage of my Bandwidth used towards my Limit. Only works for supported ISPs, however contact the Author and he will add your ISP if possible.

× NoScript – Great extension which blocks all javascript on every website until you allow it. A great security tool, allow javascript on sites you trust and use regularly. It’ll be a little annoying at first, but after a week or so you should have all your regular sites saved on it… Apparently better than it’s Chrome clone, but I didn’t notice much of a difference when I tested the Chrome version. :x

× Stylish – One of my favourite extensions. Similar to Greasemonkey however it uses CSS scripts. More than that unlike it’s Chrome version, you can actually use it to customize the browser’s interface and much more. It feels like creating your own extensions through simple CSS. Very cool.

× Tile Tabs – A must have for a multi-tasker, I work from home and while working I am often needing to view more than one webpage at the same time. Similar to Windows 7 Snapping feature which you can place two windows side by side, Tile Tabs allows you to do just that, tile tabs. You can stack them vertically, horizontally, or both. Try it out.

I have other extensions, but they aren’t as special and probably wouldn’t qualify for “Best Firefox Extensions”.

Finally, for those still on about Chrome being faster than Firefox. This is simply no longer true. Check the benchmarks at Lifehacker. Firefox 8 is faster than Chrome 15. Of course only noticeable through benchmarks. Firefox 8 also has major memory improvements. However in a time where you can buy 8GB of ram for less than $40, you shouldn’t need to worry about memory usage.

          Thank you, Josh!

Thank you all, this has really helped me out, especially the Adblock Plus and Blank Your Monitor.

use programs or bookmarks if possible
i would never use ftp program, capture program, text expander, etc. inside browser, its nice but lot of memory usage

once i tried admuncher too, but eats some html5 login boxes without warning, thats why i uninstalled

FireShot – Capture - diigo is probably better in chrome

          Stylebot is better than stylish

actually if you dont care about memory usage, next is the functionality and eye candy :P

i use both browsers, mostly chrome
chrome has now better addons, looks better and more functional, for example popup search boxes, synchs better, crashes and updates are not so annoying

      already working on it

hmm I use Chrome exclusively and I only use Google Dictionary from this list. Most of the others I would find a waste of time unless you don’t know keyboard shortcuts or have a comp too slow for enhanced content.

Several I don’t find here that are very useful are: Send from Gmail - Allows you to email a url from your gmail instantly. It also lets you include a portion of the text on the page simply by highlighting it before you click the send from gmail extension. Beautiful time saver!Explain and Send Screenshotsthe title is pretty self-explanatory but this extension lets you screenshot an entire web page or just a portion of it, mark it up with instructions or comments; even circle important parts, then saves it as a jpg. If you’ve ever tried to give someone web navigation directions on a particular site only to have them end up waaay off base, you will appreciate this one.Google quick scrollwhen you Google something, then go to one of the search results pages, this extension rolls up from the bottom of the page with your search keywords and text. when you click on it, you get taken right to the first place on the page where the text is. It’s a real time saver when you’re dong research
