By connecting peers, torrents offer us a quick way to download large files. But some users experience slow torrent speeds over their slow Internet connections. Here to boost those speeds is a torrent client called BitMate.

boost torrent speed

BitMate is a free torrent client for Windows computers. Its setup file is nearly 20MB and is based on Vuze. The creators of the client spent nearly 2 years tweaking with the torrent settings to find out what provided maximum speeds on slow Internet connections. On slow connections, researchers have found that low bandwidth connections can experience as much as a 70% boost in download speeds. The client achieves this without cheating or adversely affecting the performance of higher bandwidth peers.

This article makes me feel highly skeptical of it... Makes big claims without any reasonable explanation.

Had a bad experience with this app a couple of days back. Installed Bitmate on a Win7 Ultimate 64 bit machine with utorrent 2.2 already installed on it. Bitmate 'hijacked' the utorrent -without any prompting from me, all .torrent files suddenly bears the blue frog icon. Much worse - utorrent ceased to be listed in win7's Programmes and Features. Opening Revo unistall also failed to find it. Utorrent's folder is also missing from windows Programs Files folder.
And later when reinstalling utorrent, it appeared to be 'installed' without going through the usual wizard prompted steps.
I'm still perplexed as to what actually happened.
