There is certainly no shortage of products out there aimed at making your computer more secure. Simply scanning for viruses is not enough — security software needs to be able to handle everything from scanning for viruses to keeping every other aspect of a computer safe and secure.

We’ve been testing a brand new product called Bitdefender Internet Security, which was released yesterday. It’s packed with more security features than you can even imagine, which means it can literally be the only security solution required to keep your PC running smoothly. This particular product is also very easy to use, so you can set it up and hardly ever have to touch it again — it simply sits silently in the background.

Best of all, we are giving you the chance to win one of 10 one-year license, which is valid for 1 PC, valued at a total of $500! Keep reading the review to find out what Bitdefender Internet Securitydoes, and how you can receive a copy for yourself.

We’ve reviewed several products from Bitdefender Antivirus in the past, and we were pleased with their performance. Now, let’s see how Bitdefender Internet Security holds up. We’ll walk you through its major features so you can decide for yourself.

Setting Up Bitdefender Internet Security

As with any program, you are going to need to run through an installation process to get to using it. You can customize the installation settings, or you can simply leave them as their default and let it run through to the process automatically. I choose the manual route just to make sure it doesn’t install any unwanted software, and as I expected, it didn’t.

After the installation, you will be given the option to choose how the program behaves. For casual users, you can set it on Autopilot mode and let it handle all the important aspects for you. If you prefer, you can disable Autopilot and manage everything yourself. It also comes with a Game mode, which will make sure it does not interrupt you by running scans or updates during an important gaming session.

Using Bitdefender Internet Security

After launching the Bitdefender Internet Security, you will be taken to the home screen, which is where you will come to tweak and customize all of the options offered by the program. The list of options available on this page is extensive, and they are as follows:

  • Antivirus
  • Privacy
  • Firewall
  • Update
  • Antispam
  • ID Theft Protection
  • Safego
  • Parental Control
  • Wallet

The Antivirus aspect is probably the most sought after feature, and you will want to run a quick check on your computer to make sure it’s working properly. The scanning process is among the fastest I have seen, which is great.

The Privacy section is used to get access to a file shredder. Using this, you can quickly and permanently delete files from your computer that you do not want to recover. This can come in handy for a number of reasons, one of which could be getting rid of files you no longer need that contain personal information.

Additionally, Bitdefender Internet Security features an extensive firewall. You can leave the settings at their default if you prefer not the mess with them, but it features a ton of configurable tweaks, which will be great for power users who like to have control over their Internet protection. Of course, for users who choose not to use a firewall at all, there is the option to turn it off.

An interesting feature available with this program, and one you don’t typically find in an antivirus is the option to protect your identity. This is not enabled by default, sp you will need to activate it if you wish to take advantage of the feature. Should you choose to turn it on, you will be able to get real-time alerts to anything that could change your credit report. Identity theft is always on the rise, so this feature is quite useful.

For Facebook users, the Safego feature could be something you like, as it makes Facebook a more secure place. Once enabled, it will scan your Facebook for any problems, and should it find anything, it will alert you so you can take action to fix it.

Finally, the Wallet feature is a useful password and credential manager, which means you don’t need a separate password management program to go along with your antivirus. By having fewer applications running on your PC, you save on valuable resources.

The list of features goes on and on. For example, there are parental controls, a secure cloud storage solution, email spam blocking, and more. Basically, anything you could want from a program built to keep your Internet secure is available here. Head over to Bitdefender to check out a complete list of features or download a trial version of Bitdefender Internet Security.

We are giving away ten copies of Bitdefender Internet Security (1PC/1year) to our readers, but if you are not one of the lucky winners, you can still get your hands on the program from the company’s website for $49.95 for one PC. If you need the option to use it on more than one computer, you can do that too, just for a little higher cost.
