Disney+ is overflowing with great movies and TV shows to watch. The video streaming service combines Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic with Disney's own content to create an enormous library of movies and TV shows worth watching.

However, all of this great content makes it difficult to know where to begin! Whether you already subscribe to the streaming service or you're looking to make the most of your free trial, here are the best movies and TV shows to watch on Disney+.

Disney

Disney has spent decades producing a huge range of content from sitcoms to blockbusters. But the absolute best movies to watch on Disney+ are those from the Walt Disney Animation Studios.

They're all here for you to enjoy, but these are our top three picks.

Pinocchio

This was only the second feature film released by Disney's animation studios, but all these years later Pinocchio is still regarded by many as the high-water mark for animated cartoons. Enjoy the playful characters, impressive hand-drawn effects, detailed backgrounds, and memorable songs in this animated classic.

Aladdin

Disney's renaissance period lasted from 1989 through to 1999, with a string of 10 highly-acclaimed animated feature films, from The Little Mermaid to Tarzan. All of them are well worth your time. But if you only watch one, make it Aladdin and revel in one of the finest vocal performances ever captured, courtesy of Robin Williams.

Frozen

After a few missteps, Disney exploded onto the computer animation scene with Frozen. This movie took the world by storm with its crisp design and award-winning music. Be sure to watch Frozen on Disney+ if you haven't already seen it more times than is healthy.

Pixar

Pixar is renowned for its quality storytelling, inventive characters, and impressive computer animation. The animators expertly craft every pixel of these movies to either tickle your funny bone or tug at your heartstrings. If you haven't followed Pixar through the years, now's your chance to catch up, as the entire collection is on Disney+.

Toy Story 2

This might be cheating because you should watch the original Toy Story first, but Toy Story 2 elevated Pixar's movies to a new level. It introduced some of the best characters and most memorable sequences across all of Pixar's movies. And to be honest, you can follow the story without watching the first film anyway.

Up

Prepare to get your heart broken because the first 10 minutes of Up are infamously sad. It all comes in service of a heartwarming and colorful adventure. Let yourself get whisked away to South America with an old curmudgeon, a naive boy scout, and a talking dog.

Inside Out

Inside Out is one of those story ideas that seem so obvious after someone else comes up with it. The story follows each of the different emotions running riot within a teenage girl's head. This is a heartfelt tale with a unique lesson at its core, not to mention plenty of hilarious moments to enjoy throughout.

Marvel

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has grown into one of the world's biggest movie franchises, transforming the face of the modern blockbuster. There are over 20 feature-length films---with plenty more on the way---and they all interconnect in one form or another.

If you don't want to watch them all, here are the best Marvel movies on Disney+.

Iron Man

The one that started it all, Iron Man still stands up as a fan favorite even after all these years. If you plan to work through the Marvel movies from scratch, this is the place to start. Iron Man's origin story lays the foundations for every Marvel movie to come.

Guardians of the Galaxy

You don't need to watch any other Marvel movies on Disney+ to enjoy Guardians of the Galaxy. This rag-tag group of criminals has very few ties to the rest of the MCU, making for one of the most enjoyable standalone Marvel outings. It also has one of the best movie soundtracks ever.

Avengers: Infinity War

For those already familiar with the MCU, revisit one of the most exciting cinematic events of recent history. Avengers: Infinity War brings together almost every major Marvel character in an epic battle to save the universe.

You can then jump straight into Avengers: Endgame to conclude the battle and tie up any loose ends.

Star Wars

Star Wars doesn't have a vast catalog of movies, but they tell a fantastic and beloved story. Even though you may have seen every Star Wars movie already, Disney+ is sure to keep you entertained with its original TV shows.

The Mandalorian

The Mandalorian is the reason a lot of people signed up for Disney+. But in case you haven't heard of it, this is Disney's live-action Star Wars TV show that follows a roguish bounty hunter in his adventures across the galaxy. And it's probably the most talked-about show on Disney's streaming service.

The Clone Wars

This computer-animated retelling of the Clone Wars started back in 2008, with the final season now available on Disney+. The Clone Wars receives a great deal of praise for its quality animation and storytelling.

What's more, Disney considers The Clone Wars to be part of the official Star Wars canon. So you can't call yourself a Star Wars fan without watching it.

Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope

Of course, we can't forget the Skywalker saga Star Wars movies. There are nine episodes in the series, with two additional Star Wars stories available on Disney+ as well. The Rise of Skywalker isn't available on Disney+ just yet, but it's sure to be on the way.

We suggest you start with A New Hope since it was the first Star Wars film released. But there are plenty of ways to watch Star Wars out of order as well.

National Geographic

Disney+ rounds out its catalog of content with documentaries and series from National Geographic. There is plenty of fascinating content here, but less to get really excited about. That said, here are our three top picks that you still won't want to miss!

The World According to Jeff Goldblum

Thanks to its eccentric host, this show oozes charm and charisma, while teaching you unexpected facts about seemingly ordinary parts of the world. Follow Jeff Goldblum as he investigates sneakers, ice cream, denim, and more. It's honestly a lot more entertaining than it sounds.

Free Solo

Free Solo is an award-winning documentary that follows Alex Honnold as he free-solo climbs El Capitan. That means no ropes and no other people. This gripping movie is sure to give you sweaty palms and a sense of wonder at the impressive athletic feat on display.

Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey

Neil deGrasse Tyson hosts this fascinating documentary series exploring the wonders of space and time. Dazzling effects bring to life the mind-bending lessons to make this an entertaining and informative journey. It comes as a successor to Carl Sagan's documentary series of the same name from 1980.

What Else Is There?

Disney has amassed a lot of content over the decades, ensuring Disney+ is one of the best streaming TV services. We can't fit all of the best movies and TV shows from Disney+ into a single list, but here are some other honorable mentions we didn't want to leave out.

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl

This rip-roaring adventure over the high seas is far better than it has any right to be, seeing as it was based on a pretty lame ride from Disney's theme parks. Meet Jack Sparrow in his first---and best---adventure as he faces off against zombie pirates.

The Muppets

Every Muppets movie is great, and they're all available on Disney+. But The Muppets Movie from 2011 might be one of the best. It's light-hearted, funny, and meta---just as you'd expect from any Muppets movie. Except this one has a beautiful sense of nostalgia alongside some award-winning original songs.

The Simpsons

Disney+ includes every single episode of the Simpsons, the earlier seasons of which include some of the best episodes of television ever made. We suggest you jump back to the start and revisit Springfield as it was when the show started in 1989. You should at least watch The Simpsons Movie, if nothing else.

Don't miss our round-up of the best ever Simpsons episodes.

Enjoy Some Classic Movies on Disney+

As you might imagine, the movies and TV shows on this list are only a small selection of what's on offer on Disney+ (there's also the 2020 reimagining of Mulan). The streaming service is so full of content you're unlikely to ever work your way through its entire catalog, which dates all the way back to the 1920s. Or perhaps you want to choose Netflix rather than Disney+?

In fact, there are plenty of classic films worth watching on Disney+ you ought to watch as well. These range from underrated animations like The Black Cauldron, to cult-classic capers like Who Framed Roger Rabbit? And they have all stood the test of time better than many more recent films. You can even watch with friends thanks to Disney+ watch parties.
