1. Home

This computer-animated science-fiction buddy comedy from DreamWorks, loosely based on the 2007 children’s book, The True Meaning of Smekday, features the voices of Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory), Steve Martin, and many others. It takes place on our planet but after an alien race called the Boov have invaded.

The Home soundtrack features guest vocals from Rihanna and Jennifer Lopez, among others, including the singles Towards the Sun and Feel the Light.

2. Chicken Run

The only stop-motion animated comedy on our list was originally released in the year 2000. It follows the adventures of a clever hen named Ginger, plus Rocky, a smooth-talking rooster. The plot tells how the owners of Tweedy’s Farm have decided to switch from selling eggs to making chicken pot pies.

Naturally, this doesn’t sit well with the farm’s usually carefree inhabitants, so they endeavor to find a quick exit.

Chicken Run features the voices of Julia Sawalha, Mel Gibson, Timothy Spall, Phil Daniels, Tony Haygarth, and Miranda Richardson.

3. Minions

Those adorable minions are again causing havoc in this third firm in the Despicable Me franchise. Considered a prequel, 2015’s Minions follows Kevin, Stuart, and Bob to 1960s London where supervillain Scarlet Overkill (Sandra Bullock) hopes to become queen. The film also features the voices of Jon Hamm, Michael Keaton, and Allison Janney, and is narrated by Geoffrey Rush.

Despicable Me and Despicable Me 2 are not currently available on Netflix, which is a shame. Nonetheless, Minions packs with it hours of entertainment.

4. Jetsons: The Movie

Based on the 1960s classic cartoon series, 1990’s Jetsons: The Movie is noted for being the last for film stars George O’Hanlon, Penny Singleton, and Mel Blanc, all veterans of the series, in their final voice-acting roles.

In Jetsons: The Movie, George Jetson moves his family to the far reaches of outer space with mixed results.

5. Hotel Transylvania 2

This 2015 computer animated fantasy-comedy is every bit as entertaining as the 2012 original, Hotel Transylvania. It once again follows Dracula (Adam Sandler) who continues to keep a close eye on his daughter Mavis (Selena Gomez) and her now-husband Johnny (Andy Samberg).

The star of this film is Mavis and Johnny’s half-human/half-vampire son, Dennis, voiced by Asher Blinkoff.

The original Hotel Transylvania is not currently offered on Netflix, while Hotel Transylvania 3 is due to arrive in theaters in 2018.

6. Antz

This 1998 computer-animated adventure is the first CGI-animated film by DreamWorks Animation, and only the second feature-length computer-animated film after Disney/Pixar’s Toy Story, which debuted three years earlier. Antz follows the adventures of a curious-yet-neurotic worker ant as he struggles through ant colony, “Z”.

Folks often forget about Antz because of Disney/Pixar’s similar A Bugs Life, which was released the same year. Nonetheless, Antz holds up very well after nearly 20 years.

The film features an all-star cast including Woody Allen, Sharon Stone, Jennifer Lopez, Sylvester Stallone, Dan Aykroyd, Anne Bancroft, and Gene Hackman.

7. The Angry Birds Movie

Following on from the successful Angry Birds games, The Angry Birds Movie arrived in theaters in 2016. It stars Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Danny McBride, and Maya Rudolph.

In the movie, Red and his classmates are forced to attend anger management classes after upsetting other inhabitants of Bird Island. Unfortunately, their plans change when a boat full of green-colored pigs docks at the island’s shore. Ultimately, they must use their anger tendencies to protect their neighbors from certain ruin.

The Angry Birds Movie features music by Blake Sheldon, Demi Lovato, and Imagine Dragons.

8. Penguins of Madagascar

This 2014 computer-animated action comedy adventure is considered a spinoff of the original Madagascar film, first released in 2005. It follows the events of Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted. In this movie, the adorable Skipper, Kowalski, Rico, and Private must confront the power-mad genius, Octavius Brine.

Penguins of Madagascar features the voices of Tom McGrath, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Chris Miller.

9. The Nut Job

With the voices of Will Arnett and Brendan Fraser, among others, The Nut Job is a computer-animated heist-comedy first released in 2014. In this adventure, a purple squirrel named Surly and his mute rat partner Buddy must survive winter after being ousted from their home in Liberty Park. Will they learn the lessons that will allow them to come back home?

A sequel unimaginatively titled The Nut Job 2 is due to arrive in theaters in 2017.

10. Kung Fu Panda 3

The third film in the Kung Fu Panda series came out in 2016. In this movie, Po (Jack Black) reunites with his birth father but soon finds himself facing the evil Kai, who has returned to the mortal realm to steal chi from the kung fu masters. Can Po become The Master of Chi to defeat Kai and help his friends?

Kung Fu Panda 3 features the voices of Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad), Dustin Hoffman, and Angelina Jolie.

11. The Legend of Frosty the Snowman

It’s not quite up there with the original Frosty the Snowman, but this direct-to-video animated movie from 2005 can get you into the winter spirit nonetheless. Featuring the voices of Burt Reynolds and Bill Fagerbakke, The Legend of Frosty the Snowman once again follows everyone’s favorite talking snowman as he tries not to melt while also warming people’s hearts.

Fans of the original should watch for the Hocus Pocus cameo during the bobsled scene.
