Television manufacturers can be a tricky bunch. Just when you think you’ve figured out their acronyms and slang, things change again. In the early days of HDTV people were scrambling to figure out the difference between 1080i and 1080p and manufacturers were playing sly with acronyms by sticking the EDTV (Enhanced Definition Television) acronym on sets without explaining how it differed from HD.

Strategy games have a long history that dates back to the very first game consoles and even arcade games (such as Rampart). As with any other genre, most of the games produced have been developed by one studio and then released by a separate publisher. This includes important titles such as Homeworld, Populous and SimCity 2000.

Yes, it’s nearly time for another release of OS X. The new version, Mountain Lion, is scheduled to be released sometime this month (though the date has not yet been revealed). Apple has now released the official list of hardware that will be supported by OS X Mountain Lion.

When they originally began to hit the market, solid state drives were hailed for both speed and reliability. Many users assumed that because an SSD has no mechanical parts it is at less risk to fail. It’s simple logic that is correct more often than wrong – if there are fewer parts to break overall reliability will be better. In this case, however, that logic is not always correct.

On March 9th, 2012 at 12:01am the FBI finally pulled the plug on a set of rogue DNS servers used by the trojan known as DNSChanger, potentially leaving hundreds of thousands without access to the Internet.
The malware has kept itself in the headlines because it changes the DNS settings of infected computers. Once changed, those computers have their traffic routed through servers set up by the hackers who developed the trojan.

Malware on a smartphone isn’t new, but it’s generally been more common on Google’s app store than on Apple’s. This doesn’t mean that iOS devices are immune, however, as evidenced by a Trojan app called “Find and Call” found on both Google Play and the App Store.

The computer is one of the most versatile video players ever invented. It can play discs, various files or stream video from the web. There’s little that isn’t available on a PC, and if something is off limits its usually due to DRM and not the hardware. Yet the PC has always felt strangely isolated from other devices, including those that are designed to display video.

Security firm Trend Micro is predicting an Android apocalypse. The company has noticed an exponential rise in the amount of malware targeting Google’s mobile operating system. If current trends continue, Trend Micro expects to find 138,000 malware samples in the fourth quarter of 2012 – up dramatically from 5,000 at the start of 2012.
