Sometimes when you download music from the Internet, it is in a format incompatible with your phone or portable media device. In such situations you need to convert the file format for the downloaded audio. There are online apps for this purpose but desktop apps prove to be the fastest. While going for a desktop app to convert your audio file formats, you need to look out for other features too such as ripping audio discs and support for many file formats. Here to offer all that is a tool called Audio Transcoder.

convert audio file formats

Audio Transcoder is a desktop application for Windows computer users that helps them convert file formats of audio files. The app is sized at nearly 10 MB and installs quickly. When you run the app, you can enter the audio CD ripping mode or the audio format conversion mode; you will find corresponding tabs in the top left.

You can either drag the source files into the program or browse to them using the built-in file explorer. Using the options in the far right you can change the metadata for the audio files.

A scrolling menu lets you choose the output file format; under that, you will find the bit rate options. The settings button lets you control further quality options such as CRC Error Protection.

Another feature that the app boasts of is having support for an impressively wide range of audio files. This includes m4r, alac, tta, and many other formats that most regular audio converters do not support.

Audio Transcoder comes with a free trial of its feature for 14 days. After that, you will need to purchase it for $19.95 to continue using it.
The developers behind the service were generous enough to offer 15 free licenses to our readers. The first 15 people to comment on this post will receive a free license code.

I use FormatFactory for my converting needs. You just drag in the file, click what file-type you want it converted to, and start the conversion. It's Windows only but completely free, just watch out for the crap they try to install.

Sounds like a great app. Especially with students handing in all sorts of audio files, it will be a lot easier to convert it all to the same format.

Look like a good alternative to DBPowerAMP, which is a bit annoying truth to tell with its modular approach.
