Whenever a suspicious or obscure third-party application asks for my password, I give them some gibberish first. So if they’re malware that wants my root password, they get “INVALID PASSWORD” errors.

If it’s as easy as #2, why hasn’t it been done yet? And the “security through obscurity” thing is very yesterday; I’d argue that the 10% market share is inaccurate, and even if it were accurate, it’s still a big target. Plus, if a hacker were to get a virus to propagate on Macs, just think of the noteriety.

To have or not to have, or something along those lines. Like I said, it’s mainly up to you if you want to run it. For me, it won’t make much of a difference.

Sorry! You’re right, MacScan isn’t free. But all you need to do is run the program once to get rid of your spyware… If you’re working with FF, Nixory would be a good alternative. Just google for it

Well this just shows that Mac users are not safe as people tell them are. Yes they are much more safter on MAC than Windows.. But that really doesnt matter. The only person who can protect you, is you. Have common sense and don’t be stupid on the internet. Your only “good” anti-virus is your self.

The problem with this it 2 things
1) Security thru obscurity is not security
2) OS X runs on a BSD core that is behind on updates, if someones wants to hack they just have to look at what holes are fixed in freeBSD
