Each week we scour current Google Play promotions and cherry-pick the best of the best. This week we have one of the most beautiful alarm clocks for Android that went all-free, a zombie app that’ll whip you into shape, and more!

Because app sales are temporary affairs, by the time you read this, these may no longer be on sale. Worry not: Simply check back next week for some more Android deals!

Timely Alarm Clock (In-app purchase, now totally free!)

First things first: Timely made quite a splash Timely For Android: A Beautiful, Powerful, and Slick Alarm Clock Timely For Android: A Beautiful, Powerful, and Slick Alarm Clock Whatever alarm clock you're using, it's uglier than Timely. That's a bold assertion to make, I know. But I've been using Gentle Alarm, one of the most powerful and versatile alarm clocks for Android, for... Read More when it launched, and now it got bought up by Google. We know where the story is likely to go from here (i.e, assimilation into some other Google product), but for now, it means that all of the features that used to require in-app purchase are completely free!

Notif Pro ($1.49, now $1)

Most apps use Android’s rich notifications as an extra feature, to pull you back into the app or let you know something new happened. With Notif, these notifications are the whole point: It’s an app dedicated to creating custom notifications which you can then use as personal reminders. You can time these messages, include text, lists, images, and even change their associated icons. Zombies, Run! ($3.99, now $2.99)

Running is a good way to keep (or get) in shape, but it isn’t always fun. Zombies, Run is a running app that tries to turn it into a game — a game where you run for your life, trying to escape hordes of zombies. It works like a narrated story that tries to keep in sync with your run, and includes dozens of different missions to keep you interested in what’s going to happen next.

Screenshot Ultimate Pro ($3.80, now $0.99)

Modern Android devices include a built-in way to take screenshots, which means you don’t strictly need a third-party app. But Screenshot Ultimate Pro makes it possible to capture screenshots by shaking your device, pressing its camera button (if it has one), taking screenshots at regular intervals, and more. Also includes a simple screenshot editor.

USB Scanner ($10, now $1)

Here’s an odd one: Assuming you have a USB OTG cable How To Connect a USB Keyboard To Your Android Phone How To Connect a USB Keyboard To Your Android Phone While I’m a big fan of Swype, SlideIT, and other advanced keyboards for Android, there’s something to be said about a keyboard with keys on it. I mean the physical-type keyboards – you know, the... Read More for your device, this app lets you plug in a full-sized scanner (like the one you’d connect to a PC), and scan document directly into your phone. Granted, this is quite a niche thing to want to do, but if you happen to have a job that requires constant document scanning on the go, this can be an interesting option.

DraStic DS Emulator ($7.99, now $5.99)

A Nintendo DS emulator! Lets you resize the DS screens, supports external controllers, lets you save your progress in games. It’s relatively pricey as emulators go, and of course, you are going to need to supply your own game ROMs, but a 4.6-star average based on over 9,400 reviews indicates that DraStic performs well. If you’re serious about your retro gaming, a $2 discount is a nice opportunity to grab this emulator.

Scan ($4.99, now $0.99)

Our second scanning-related app in today’s roundup, scan is a QR and barcode scanner that looks and feels thoroughly modern. It does a simple task and there are free QR code scanners around like ZXing Team’s Barcode Scanner, but Scan does look quite nice (nicer than Barcode Scanner, if you ask me).

KD Collage Pro ($1.49, now $0.99)

Photo collages are a great way to stand out from the crowd on Instagram or other social networks. KD Collage Pro includes numerous templates for creating three-image collages, and also lets you overlay text on top of your images. Results can range from gorgeous to tacky, depending on your source materials and your graphics chops.

Empire ($2.98, now $0.99)

A card-based strategy game that revolves around leading a crumbling empire in a fight to the death against monsters. Sounds rather dark, but promises deep strategic gameplay. Your deck grows during the game, and there are various kinds of cards. Available not just for Android but also for iOS and PC.
