Each week we scour current Google Play promotions and cherry-pick the best of the best. This week, all-time favorite Cut the Rope HD is on sale, as well as indie hit Spirits, a great real-time strategy game, and more.

Because app sales are temporary affairs, by the time you read this, these may no longer be on sale. Worry not: Simply check back next week for some more Android deals!

Apps

Plex for Android, ($5, now $2)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I2Wl33pBsi8

Dramatic video soundtrack aside, Plex is basically a media powerhouse for your Android device. We've actually have a whole guide dedicated to Plex - that's how awesome it is. The guide isn't about the Android version, but if you want a comprehensive media center, it's hard to go wrong with Plex. You can stream media between devices, sync videos for offline viewing, and much more. Also, you should watch the video because there's a dog at the end.

GoneMAD Music Player Unlocked, ($4, now $1)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qE-G0H5eog8

One of the most powerful and versatile music players available for Android. It supports no less than 14 different audio formats, can crossfade songs, control left/right audio balance, has 16 built-in equalizer presets, and much more. There's a free trial available, but if the video above seems intriguing, a drop from $4 to just $1 is a great chance to grab this player.

Solar System HD Deluxe Edition, ($2, now $1)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0yB2Z5jrQqk

Live wallpapers are an acquired taste. That said, if you're a live wallpaper fan, it's hard to go wrong with Solar System HD Deluxe. It's as over the top as they come, rendering the splendor of our solar system right on your device, with numerous settings you can tweak to your liking. Nine planets, all with HD textures, as well as gas giants and a realistic-looking (or at least impressive) sun. You're going to need a recent device to enjoy this live wallpaper, though.

HDR FX Photo Editor Pro, ($5, now $2)

Does what it says on the tin: It's a photo editor specifically for applying HDR effects to your photos. While many cameras now include this feature (not to mention the excellent SnapSeed with its recently introduced HDR feature), HDR FX is dedicated just to the task of applying HDR effects. Quite well received.

Games

Cut the Rope HD, ($2, now $1)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lyebheo5Ykk

Cut the Rope needs little in the way of introduction. Just in time for Thanksgiving, you can grab this absolute classic (over 400 million downloads!) in a high-res version that would look great on your full HD phone or tablet. Go ahead, feed om nom.

Geometry Dash, ($2, now $1)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k90y6PIzIaE

Part rhythm game, part platformer, this pixelated indie gem is packed with retro magic. A buck off was enough to make me buy it (writing this column can get expensive!). You basically have to run and jump to the music - the video above really conveys the experience best, and as it says, no in-app purchases are required, and you can build and share levels with friends. Beautifully done.

Spirits, ($3, now $1)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c8CS9wHACkE

If you're after something a bit more atmospheric, Spirits may do the trick. It's sort of like a modern version of the lemmings, only instead of lemmings you control spirits that arose from fallen leaves, and you use wind or rebuild the ground to control them. Half the experience is in the charming art style, so do watch the video to get a sense of what the game offers.

Total War Battles, ($2, now $1)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Z22BfnkqIw

If you are after something a bit more brutal, Total War Battles may satisfy your craving for carnage. This Sega-published title uses a hexagonal board, pitting ninjas against samurais. The graphics don't seem amazing, at least judging by the video, but a 4.2-star average based on over 1,700 reviews in the Play Store, plus having Sega as the publisher, meant it made the list this week.

Rusted Warfare - RTS Strategy, ($3, now $2)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGHi2b3Oabo

For a completely different take on the RTS genre, you may want to check out Rusted Warfare. With its 16-bit retro-tastic graphics, it pits tanks, helicopters, boats, and other traditional units in (naturally) a fight to the death. One thing to note is that the game is currently still in Alpha (even though it usually retails for $3!), though I would not expect the graphics to suddenly transform into something more modern.

Prince of Persia Shadow&Flame, ($3, now $1)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ki3X1tfGFNM

Last but certainly not least, we wrap up today's roundup with Ubisoft's classic Prince of Persia. This is just a gorgeous platformer, done in isometric 3D. If you played Prince of Persia as a kid (as I did), you may find this modern touchscreen-friendly incarnation difficult to resist.

Tune in next week for some more great Android deals! And of course, feel free to share your finds and favorites in the comments below.
