If you are a user of Amazon’s Prime Instant Video service, you may be happy to know that Amazon’s Instant Video app is now optimized and available for the iPhone and iPod touch. However, Amazon Instant Video requires that users have an Amazon Prime membership in order to stream selected movies to their iOS device.
Movie titles available from Prime Instant Video can be downloaded by Prime members at no additional cost. Amazon says that there are 140,000 videos available from the Instant Video store, and there are no time limits or requirements for streaming content to your device.
As with the iPad version, the iPhone version of Instant Video works over Wi-Fi only. The user interface mirrors the iPad version with sections for different genres, including Featured Prime Movies & TV, Your Watchlist, Featured Prime Kids & Family, Prime Action & Adventure, as well as documentaries, drama and horror movies.
Prime movies cannot be saved for off-line viewing, but movies can be purchased, downloaded or rented to your Video Library. Movies can also be added to your Watchlist from your PC, Mac, or Kindle Fire HD for later viewing on your iOS device. You can also subscribe to a TV Season Pass, which makes those episodes available in your Instant Video app the day after they air.
You can also start watching movies on your iOS device, and resume where you left off on say your Kindle Fire HD, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC, Mac, or other TV and Blue-ray players with Amazon Whispersync.
