As part of its Trade-in Store, the online retailer Amazon.com is now accepting used electronic items and in return customers receive an Amazon gift card credited to their Amazon account. Acceptable items include smartphones, laptops, tablets, cameras, e-book readers, GPS devices, calculators, and the like.
In addition to books, movies, games, and other products, Amazon’s trade-in program will accept used electronic products purchased from Amazon, as well as other online and local retailers. Products for trade-in must match the items displayed in the Amazon Trade-in Stores.
For example, an Apple iPhone 4, 32GB (Black), is currently listed for $300 of trade-in credit. Amazon says that in order for used product to be eligible for trade-in it must meet specific condition criteria (model number, color, and all relevant accessories) displayed next to the item during the trade-in submission process.
Amazon pays for the posting and shipping of used products, which must be postmarked no later than 7 days after the trade-in form is submitted online. Customers will receive an email confirmation and an Amazon.com Gift Card for the trade-in amount within 2 business days of receipt and verification of used trade-in product(s).
To see which items are available for trade-in, visit the Amazon Trade-in Store and search for eligible items. When you find an item, click the yellow Trade-in button, review the trade-in conditions, and prepare your used product for shipping. You then print out postage labels from the website. Products can only be shipped from the United States and must have a physical address or P.O. Box located in the U.S..
