If you’ve been travelling the world in the past few years, chances are you’ve heard of Airbnb. Airbnb is a world-wide community, where people can rent out rooms in their own houses (or even their entire house) to travellers, and budget-aware travellers can find accommodations almost anywhere in the world for fair prices. But Airbnb is about more than good prices, it’s a community, and living in a local’s house for a week can prove to be a much more interesting experience than a hotel.
If you like travelling and haven’t tried Airbnb yet, or if you’ve given it a chance but want to make more out of it, a book called Airbnb Pro: Become an Airbnb Power User is here to help. The book, written by Michelle and Rob Slade, describes all the useful tips and tricks the couple picked up while using Airbnb extensively, along with step-by-step directions on how to make the most of the Airbnb website and community. Airbnb Pro is aimed at travellers who wish to use Airbnb, not so much at those who wish to become hosts.
This week we are giving away 25 copies of Airbnb Pro: Become an Airbnb Power User worth $300! Read on to find out some more about this intriguing book, and of course, to find out how you can win one.
An In-Depth Look At Airbnb Pro
The first thing I noticed about Airbnb Pro, is how simply it’s written. No matter how many times you’ve used Airbnb, or even if you’ve never used it, you’re going to be able to follow easily. It starts with the very basics and slowly advances from there, providing useful screenshots and links to Airbnb’s own help section along the way. It’s also very well written, so if you get thrown off by typos and grammar mistakes (I know I do!), you won’t find any of those here.
Having said that, the book is so simple, you might get a bit bored with parts of it if you’ve used Airbnb in the past. The books explains each Airbnb feature in detail, and if you already know Airbnb, even somewhat, you might find these sections redundant. But have no fear, the book is well organized into chapters, so you can skip through to the section you’re interested in.
Unfortunately, though, there is no one section where all the useful tips hide, and there are some very useful tips in the book, so it’s worth reading through just for those (it’s only 64 pages long). For example, I never thought looking at very new properties was a good idea, but apparently, you can get these properties for much cheaper, and if you make sure the host is okay, you can find some great deals.
The book also provides everything on creating your Airbnb profile and making it more appealing, finding the property that’s best for you, communicating with your prospective hosts and lots more.
Note that the book comes in PDF format, which might not work very well for some e-readers (it was way too small on my Kindle keyboard), but it does come with free updates for life and a full refund policy if you’re not happy for any reason.
Should You Buy Airbnb Pro?
As it happens, I’m in the middle of planning an extensive Airbnb-based trip. I’ve been using Airbnb a lot lately, and being no dummy, I didn’t expect this book to actually tell me lots of things I didn’t already know. Boy, was I wrong. Since reading Airbnb Pro I’ve started making use of features I always knew were there, but never really noticed (there’s a Map tab for each property!). It also provided several really good tips I’ve already started using in my search for the best Airbnb properties.
At $12, this is an average-priced eBook, perhaps even on the expensive side, but if you plan on using Airbnb any time soon (and you’re not a pro yet), I highly recommend this book.
