You can either use a quick mask or a layer mask to select stuff, or rather NOT select stuff. In a nutshell, while in quickmask mode or a layer mask, you paint over something in black, which shows up as reddish. Then when you exit the mask, everything BUT what you painted is selected. Think: masking tape while painting a room. I'll be tackling that subject in much more detail, soon. To enter quickmask mode, just click q on your keyboard or click on the quickmask button at the bottom of the toolbar. That transparent red shade is a mask. I've gotten pretty adept at using layers themselves, but now I would like to do more with them. I have seen, on YouTube, a tute that showed a transparent red shade over the photo that allowed you to color, shade, highlight, adjust, etc. just the parts of the image you applied it to (such as shading on someone's lips to darken them). I cannot remember how to do this, though. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? I just can't remember how to bring up that transparent red shade that allowed you to adjust the highlighted components.
