Access Blocked Websites using Proxy Servers

There may be times when you might want to use an anonymous free prfoxy server so you can safely surf the net without your information being available to hackers, spammers and scammers…. or anyone else, for that matter!

Web proxies are used for hiding your IP address and by-passing work, school or other web filters. For instance, if Facebook or Myspace is blocked on the computer you are using, you can easily gain access by using a web proxy.

HideMyAss – Free and speedy proxy service. Use it to hide your IP address and get through network filters. HideMyAss is part of a Privax proxy network, so if it’s blocked, there are several others you give a try. There is nothing to configure, just type-in the address of the website you want to visit and press ‘Go’.

HideMyAss - Free Anonymous Proxy Servers

Proxy.org – Extensive directory of free proxy servers. There are well over 15,000 Proxy Servers on the Web. As of this writing, Proxy.org claims to have 4,718 working proxies available for you to choose from, so that might be a pretty good place to start.

Proxy.org

GlobalPandora – Finally, free and simple way to access a US-only Pandora interactive web radio from outside US. If you haven’t tried it before, give it a try now.

      What about virtual web browsers?

Sometimes Google Translate a web page works or Google cached version.

I’ve got the same issue as Mark at my work…been using proxy servers like a charm for the last year, and suddenly I come into work last Monday and they have proxy servers/anonymizing web sites on the blocked list. Anything else I can do or am I just screwed?

try differnet proxy sites. preferably use ones that dont have the word “proxy” in the domian, and extension ends with “.com”

try this website, it gives you list of proxy sites, and it updates everyday with new proxy sites.

      tech-faq.com/proxy.shtml

      good luck

    Good answer, Bobby!

For those of you having trouble with blocked proxy servers, try the Google Cached Pages.
    Here’s a good info link:

    googleguide.com/cached_pages.html

I haven’t tried the Virtual Browsers or Google translate a web page yet,
but hey… give them a try as well! There’s always more than one way to get around the net!

you need fresh unblocked proxies everyday as proxies tend to be blocked in a matter of days.

Here is a group my friends and I use at school and all the proxies so far work like a charm.

    Hope this helps.

    Good luck!

Yes Remote Desktop has always been a favorite of mine.

Set it to port 80 to get around them blocked ports. (firewalls)
Use something that runs in a web browser and doesn’t require a install client to get around them locked down machines.

Remotely Anywhere was my app of choice, not sure if it still the same as I used a older version years ago.

Hi, I prefer to use paid services like strongvpn.com account. I used proxies before and always had been disappointed with it. You know… all that bandwidth throttles, lags… I love myself and do not want to waste my time for waiting. So I’ve bought it OpenVPN account, as for plus my traffic is encrypted now.

but you have to go to the bottom of the page and click on throughproxy but click on the second one.. then it will bring you to a page where you think you wont be able to get on but click on where it says the sites not recommended but to go onto it ne wayz then go to the box that says go and type it the site you wanna go to… i dont really work for meebo n shit like that but myspace and bebo and shit like tat def. werks and when the pop up cumz up always click yes evn tho its annoying..

Use port forwarding to a remote server through a SSH tunnel. The connection is encrypted, so nobody will ever know what you are doing, and what you are visiting. This is very straightforward if you already have a web hosting account. HOW-TO: phi.pro.br/hacks/#00008

There are many other options to hide ip address and access blocked websites. Using web proxies, VPN connections, hide ip software, add-ons and toolbars etc. I use IP Privacy because it’s easy and has premium proxies from US and Europe.

if you just go to linquist.net/geek/proxy it tells you how to set up a proxy to use from your home computer. most things like school and work places block urls but not ip adresses. so it would work for a while unless they get smart [fat chance]. if you do it right its good

I have a question. Is it possible to get to blocked websites without using a proxy or having to download any special tool? My school has this laptop program and it has very strict limits on it. Almost everything is block and a lot of things are locked so you can not change the internet settings. Its a Mac Book laptop if that helps any, and also the filter and light speed follow you where ever you go.
