[...] 8 Sister Wikis From Wikipedia. The always helpful MakeUseOf.com has put together a list of “sister” projects to Wikipedia that everyone should know about. My favorites are the Wikimedia Commons, because it links to a number of free or public domain graphics, and Wikiversity, because it often has useful tutorials on a variety of topics.
Of the various Wikis that are on the net, I mostly use Wikipedia. However, when it comes to creating Wikipedia articles (I have created a few) or contributing to existing Wikipedia articles (I have contributed to quite a few), over the last year I have increasingly tended to use Google Knol - simply because I can control the thing.

This is because I have become heartily sick and tired of people spamming or vandalising articles, or - which is worse - making moronic or ignorant or biased (opinionated or "point of view") changes to articles. The latter completely destroys the potential value of what could otherwise be a pithy and objective piece of knowledge.

Wikipedia is the poor man's Enc. Britannica. For absolutely reliable and academically well-researched knowledge, give me the Enc. Britannica, every time.

@Keef - Wikileaks isn't actually associated with Wikipedia at all - it's a wiki and it uses the same MediaWiki software, that's all. But it does show that the software can be put to all sorts of uses by people!

Blame it on the comprehensiveness of Wikipedia itself, that we rarely go beyond it...though I do sometimes use Wikimedia Commons.
