Regarding Registry Cleaners
They could help – for a moderately messed up Windows installation. For a seriously messed up Windows installation my personal favorite is reinstallation (or more precisely – restoring Windows from a clean image).

To Shreela – it is quite possible that the combination of 2 apps is “toxic” for your computer. It is bad, when you need both applications.

Agreed. I’ve been working with Windows for a long long time and have never fixed a ‘frozen’ or ‘unresponsive’ issue with any registry cleaner. On the flip side, registry cleaners have broken things a few times.

A more likely fix for core windows component corruption would be System File Checker ‘sfc /scannow’ In fact, how did that not make this list?? It’s built in even!

Wow. You’d rather have the company who develops your OS dictate what hardware you can or cannot put it on? You’d rather have the company who develops your OS be responsible for delivering you every piece of software you use too? …ehem…Apple (admittedly getting better though)

The market and the variables are now too vast for anyone to expect perfection. I my self have been there so I understand your frustration, but I do feel that your beef is a bit dated and that MS is doing a pretty good job these days. IE- Win7, Bing, Live Mesh, Technet, Natal…

Don’t get so caught up in the anti-hype dude. It won’t get you laid.

Registry cleaners are a waste of time and more dangerous according to numerous experts at http://www.aumha.org

Don’t waste your time with those. Just use something that can track the installation of a new program and then TOTALLY uninstall it if you don’t use it.

Adobe Air and/or Silverlight.

All I know is our XP3 kept running slower and slower, despite negative scans (AVG, Spyware Terminator, HiJackThis, SSD, AdAware). So next was to lose stuff I “really” didn’t “need” that was on all the time. After Adobe Air and Silverlight was uninstalled, the XP3 was back to normal.

Now I wish I would have uninstalled each one separately to know which it was, or if it could have been the combo.

I did notice other XP users complaining about Adobe Air slowing their pc down a lot, but didn’t look up Silverlight forums/blogs.

I agree with your points – 8 and 9, I mean. As for “why”, it is similar to “that” in those cases “that” can be omitted – could be both.

I’ll add an 8th reason: Windows is a #%$& piece of &@#$% that wasn’t tested properly. Oh, and reason #9: the people who write the software don’t actually have to use it.

BTW, a grammatical nitpick regarding this article’s title: “Reason why” is redundant. It’s sufficient just to say “Reason”.
