I think I’m an insomniac – I stay up all the time, leaving sleep at the very bottom of my priority list. I understand that it isn’t healthy, and truth be told, I’m working on it. However, what doesn’t help is the fact that I spend a lot of time on Reddit. What makes it even worse is that I read some of Reddit’s creepier subreddits for fun – no bueno. The content on these sites keep me up late, hiding under my blanket and hoping for the sun to rise as much as a player in Minecraft would.
Today, I thought I’d give you a taste of some of the more horrifying subreddits that I’ve found. Naturally, a lot of you won’t find them scary. However, I do, and I’m sure that there are quite a few of you who actually will find them just as terrifying as me! Really, I’m just looking for a little moral support. Anyway, let’s take a look at these freaky subreddits right now.
This particular subreddit is my go-to subreddit, and it is utilized for displaying generally creepy items that people find on the Internet and even in real life. Here, you’ll find videos, pictures, and even short articles on the creepier things in life. Granted, I can’t guarantee that everything you’ll find on here is legitimate. However, I did find something on this subreddit that was from a place about fifteen miles away from my hometown.
If you’re into horror lit, then this is absolutely one place you need to be on Reddit. As the title (and even the headline for this article) suggests, this subreddit is designed for you lose as much sleep as possible. Of course, I’m obligated to say that I cannot guarantee you will be scared while reading the content found here. Additionally, I can’t guarantee there isn’t a clown under your bed with a meat cleaver right now.
Oh, Creepy Pasta. From stories about missing Spongebob episodes all the way to skeletons popping out of cars, I believe we’ve all had a taste of the living dead linguini. However, Reddit has put its own spin on the creepy reposts, and you can read all of your favorites (and some others) in the karma-inspired format. Hopefully, thanks to the voting system, you’ll only find the best of the best.
The subreddit r/Nightmares is relatively dead and abandoned (heh), but within it are some interesting material worth reading. Here, you’ll find actual nightmares from redditors site-wide. However, as I mentioned, the content isn’t very fresh, and you likely won’t be making many return favorites. However, I found some gems on this bare subreddit, so it might be worth it for some of you to give it a try.
For those of us who are fans of the horror genre, r/Horror (or Dreadit, as it is affectionally called to by its home base) is the place to check out. The site devotes itself to fictional horror (even making a note about it in the site rules), and you’ll find everything from horror movie trailers to interviews with horror movie stars. Furthermore, the site doesn’t limit itself to just movies. There are plenty of discussions and articles to jump into.
My dear MakeUseOf readers, that’s all of the freaky subreddits we have for you today. However, we’re sure that you have plenty of terrifying things to tell us. Perhaps there is someone about to enter your room right now, a person from your past with a heart for vengeance – someone that you have wronged in the past. Hopefully, they won’t lock you in the cellar only to come back here and leave a comment on the article, successfully stealing your identity and your computer. I can only pray that this won’t be the case.
What other creepy subreddits have you found? What is the scariest thing that has ever happened to you?
